Hi
When reversing I get a rather loud honking/sqealing noise from the rear wheels. Applying the brakes lessons/stops the noise so obviously brake related. Any ideas? Anyone had similar?
Cheers
That's a new one on me. It could be you have got a sticking caliper or handbrake actuator holding the brake pad on slightly. If it persists I would give your dealer a call as mine certainly doesn't do it and I haven't heard anybody else complain about it.
BTW welcome to the Forum and the TDi Sport club. :D

Thanks. Its booked in at the dealers next week for a few trim niggles, and for the anti-hijack to be turned on. Think I'll get them to look at the rear brakes as well. Thought it might be a similar quirk to that experienced on my old 20VT - noisy brakes.
No probs. The anti-hijack is sadly a definate must in todays climate of crime, mine came with it already enabled. It took a little getting used to but a great feature of the car.

I'm not sure if i understood what noise u got mate but i had a noise when reversing and braking too. It resulted in being an uneven brake pad on the rear right brake. I played too much with the handbrake in those days:D :D !!
It went away with time and by leaving the handrake on only when parked,,,
Cheers,,,
Yup, its totally normal for the VW's to do this.
Ive read about it alot on freds tdi forum, weather affects how much they squeel as well.
Both me and my dad get it now and again.

Yep, I get exactly the same on mine.
It's quite loud at times, seems to vary with weather - but only ever does it while reversing.
Any tips to stop it would be most welcome !

On occasion I have heard a disturbing sound when reversing. It could be this. Doesn't seem to happen anywhere except when I'm reversing off my drive. So I put it down to the discs rusting a bit whilst the hand brake is on and them sticking for a few seconds.

my 2001 my ibiza was doing a slight squeal at slow speeds in the wet last week. - going forwards.
bit odd, hope brakes not hanging on !!
hasn't done it since.
Mine used to make a horrid vibrating noise when reversing off the drive (on a slight incline) - not noticed it for a while though.

aceman, talk to me about anti hi-jack and has my 2oo1 cupra got it
the easy way to tell. does your car lock its doors when you go above 5mph?
yup, you see its common,..... apparently its because you run the pad and discs for 1000's of miles in the foward motion which sets the metal of the disc and the pads, then reversing is rubbing against this.... sort of like cheese on a grater for want of a better example!! :)
As Rage says it is a feature that automatically locks the doors when you go over 5mph. The doors automatically unlock when you remove the ignition key but if you want to open the door when the key is (ie. in an emergancy or dropping a passenger off) in you can pull the internal door lever twice. Just warn your passengers first though as they tend to try pulling harder rather than twice:D
I would of thought your cupra will have this facility but it will need enabling by your dealer or somebody who has VAG-COM. Most dealers will do it free when your car is for service etc.

Agreed - I'm suprised my passenger door handle hasn't broken yet !
I usually try and unlock the doors using the switch on the drivers door, before they attempt to get out.
