I was in a garden centre in Cheltenham yesterday. There was an MG ZT-T (Estate) in Gold, it was badged as a V8 and the same badge that's on the 190bhp that says 190 (funnily enough) said 260 so I guess that's 260bhp. Reg number was - 715* MG.
It had four exhausts, two either side with a chrome heatshield thingy above both. Looked quite nice.

Anyway, to the question, are they out yet? Is this a pre-release version? There's no mention on the MG site as far as I can see.

Yes it was a V8, see here (http://www.mg-rover.org/models/?MenuID=17)

But it seems The V8 installation is the first in the MG ZT and preludes the launch of road going 260Ps versions, so guess this must be one of the road going versions.

wouldn't touch one of those with a bargepole! Mg though they could just open the bonnet and stick in a big engine ang bingo - super car. In reality the prototype was a hacked together with important bits missing like cataysts and aircon rads etc. For the production car they are stuggling to fit it all under the bonnet and pass important homologation tests like driveby noise, emissions and durability etc. If you want one, buy a cheap 190 and get you local garage to stick in a V8, it'll be just as good as MG attempt!

(if you're gonna spend 40k get a nearly new M5 like everyone else:p )

LOL, I'd be amused to see what the reaction would be to that post on the MG forums.... :D

They have spent almost as much time trying to get these sorted as ford did with RS. Now have given test models to staff, such as directors for test mules.

I saw a V8 MG ZT saloon a couple of months ago, it had black tape over the V8 & 260 badges, but the twin tail pipes and V8 rumble gave it away.

Living close to Birmingham I have seen a few pre production cars, the best was when they changed from the 200 to the 25 they were running one with a Vauxhall 'V' grille on it.
