View Full Version : Insurance Joke
Right im with adrian flux at the moment and my renewl is due next week. Now i have moved to london, but my car is still in brum. Told them this as well as the fact my mileage has decreased (only used on weekends when i go home). They asked for my london address. Thought it was odd but gave it anyway. Now my premium has increased because they have to take the more risky address into account even though the car is not kept there. Absolute joke.
So my renewl quote has gone up from £550 to £650.
Then to make me even more annoyed they said that they will charge me an admin fee of £25 for renewing with them as that is their standard policy.
What a joke!!!
looks like il be going with Direct line who have quoted me £450 all in!!

I was with adrian flux for a mini, paid about 80 deposit with the rest in installments. Had a crash, got paid out, then realised i hadnt paid the rest of the installments, phoned them, they told me to phone another company who handled the debits, who told me to phone adrian flux, who told me to phone the other company, so i gave up, stupid idiots didnt want my money!
Over three years now so i paid 80 quids that year and got paid out, nicely
It seems that if your a new customer, insurance comps are willing to do you a good deal and then come renewl time they try to rape you!!
Had to leave direct line 2 years ago but looks like im going back to them.

Cheers for the suggestions guys. I got my insurance sorted with Noel Dazley in the end. All mods declared, lower excess and euro cover for £450.

oh yes i know this too well.
got a good deal last year for my insurance (was £750 for the mods i had then and on fully comp) i was 21 and had 2 yrs NCB. that was with Admiral
i got a renewal through from admiral asking for £800 :-o like heck i was paying that for being 22 and 3 yrs ncb + i wanted to mod my car more.
so after phoening around and beating their prices down i got a great deal with adrian flux.
£380 fully comp, unlimited milage, i can make any mod to my car without having to pay their £25 charge or effect premium (unless its a BHP mod).
and loads of other bits and peices. well chuffed that i saved myself over £400!.. so i spent that on coilies !
that's with 9 years NCD! :-o
NCD is a joke anyway
most places list it as 5yrs or more now rather than a % discount

Did you tell direct line that you are living in london?
No offence, but you wouldnt be the first person to hae two addresses available to you and want to use the cheaper one. What would happen if you took the car to london just the one and something happened?
Im sure you are being honest, but sadly some of these policies are in place for a reason.

my car is 96% always parked in my locked garage... so do i need to inform my insurance that i park at a different adress for 4% of the year ?
i dont bother, and why should i ? it does not state anywhere that my car insurance is invalid if i leave it ata mates house for the night.. people do have lives and travel.

I am not flaming or saying what is right or wrong, just providing you with the facts as I understand them.
Staying at a mates house is just Social, however in theory if you kept your car on your drive overnight 4% of the time, you should tell your insurance company. The same theory can be applied for example :- You are in the army and your barracks is in a nice area of south England. At weekends and when on leave you go home to your parents house which is in the middle of Manchester. Using your nice army postcode just to get a lower premium is not what insurers like, as the premium would not relate to the entire risk. Not disclosing the material about your Manchester address even if your not asked, could cause problems when making a claim especially if the car is stolen in Manchester. I know some Insurers don't quote people in certain postcodes at all.
Reading the small print on my campervan renewal:
You are reminded that it is an offence under the Road Traffic Act to make any false statements or withhold any relevant information to obtain an Insurance Certificate.
If you are in any doubts as to whether any information is material, you should disclose it.
At the end of the day its no-ones business what you or anyone else does and the choice is yours, but at least you can make an informed decision.

1%, 4% 40%..
can you prove this in the event of a claim? probably not.
If you turn things around and put yourself in the shoes of the insurance company im sure you will see why they have done this.
