ok ian i'll have the wrinkle black cover and the satin black cp cover with the block breather but im unsure on what size i need its for the leon 180 cheers
Well do you want to run the stock breather lines or a catch can?
Is the -12AN fitting closest to the OE 19mm size?
The MoffMeister
07-07-2008, 13:17
erm.. lol a catch can that for the oil?
Is the -12AN fitting closest to the OE 19mm size?
-12AN is 19.05mm. :D
Answer is yes then!
Have you any pics of the carbon fibre coil shield Ina?

What's a block breather?
I would like a Satin Black Rocker Cover and Satin Black Coil Pack Cover :D
It replaces the OE crappy PCV plastic pipe that goes into the block, with the threaded adapter you can then use proper AN fittings and braided hose.
Answer is yes then!
Have you any pics of the carbon fibre coil shield Ina?
I can leave the stock fitting in there for you guys but I usually sell some customers a 1/2" NPT to barb fitting so that they can run silicone hose from the cover and block breather to the catch can.
This is the CF unit:

With the block breather package will i be able to fit it on my car without having to buy anything else?
How long do you rekon it will be until getting these?
Cheers :D
You will only need to make braided hoses which can be done @ the local hydraulic shop :D
When the list reached 5 of each then I will take payment and off these go to the shipping depot so spread the word.So far its only 1 of each.

Would it be possible for you to supply the braided hose as i have no idea what i would need or what to ask for?
Or anyone else know where i can order what i would need online?
I can supply ypou with the braided hose no problem as well as the barb fittings. You let me know what fittings you want throughout and the colour you want (blue I am assuming looking @ your engine bay) and we will go from there.

I'll go for the block breather package then please mate.
If you could sort me out the hose i need with the fittings in Blue that would be great but if not then don't worry about it, i'll just have both covers with the breather block package and i'll sort out a hose when i receive them.
Cheers :D

Are the coil pack covers available on there own? Id definatly have one if they are
Coil pack covers ARE available on there own but it does not make economical sense (to me) to spend 3 times in shipping on the value of a part, you get what I mean?

No I can process the order for you right away,I just feel bad shipping such a small item across.IS it not possible for you to arrange with one of the forum members to split shipping and once it gets to the UK it will be shipped to you?
Of course you can always looking around on 034efi.com and see what else you like and I will toss it in the box for you.

Ok thanks.
Have spoken to our leaders and they have suggested we do a group buy on these but would need to be done through you our supplier in this section. I will put up a thread in the mk3 section pointing towards the group buy thread if/when its created. This way it'l make more sense putting in an order to save on the postage.
Hope this is ok to sort out?
Sure, whatever is best for you.I am looking to help you out....If I didnt care I would have processed the order and made you pay for the shipping but I do care thats why I want you to find others to split that shipping cost because USPS does not care about 1lb or 10lbs....

Yep thats great. Could you start a thread about a group buy for us (as it has to be by the sponsors not us normal members) and i will stick the word out to get the numbers up.
Thanks
Myki, i'd be up for the block breather with 3/4" NPT to -12 adaptor. Myki, they sell phenolic spacers. ;)
Issam, what needed for the cover, another 3/4" NPT to -12 adaptor? Or can i use a -12 T piece?
Also, BUMP for baffled pan i seen you post in my thread in the mk3 section. :D

Hi Phil!:D
For the valve cover you just need to pull out the breather nipple (use a vice grip) and tap it for a 1/2" NPT.I can send you a 1/2" NPT to 12-AN fitting and then you get your lines made up in the UK.
Baffled & extended oil pan is coming VERY soon.

Can you do coilpack covers in aluminium so i can polish it up the same as my rocker cover. because the raw stainless steel one seams to be a 316 dull finnish. or what about 304 ??

I'm in love with that site.
Well whatever you need let me know.Shipping is practically the same when your going as far as Norway!
There's so much on there I don't really need or can use. It's really just p0rn. :D
I can only imagine. What modifications do you have to your engine right now?
I can only imagine. What modifications do you have to your engine right now?
You don't want to be talking to me about that. :D There's so many fine cars around on this forum.
Over here we are not allowed to do any performance modifications exceeding 10% of what's standard. You can, but you need approval (which is very hard to get) and you need to pay extra tax to the government.
We can't even put on big brake kits, like Brembo's Gran Turismo. Insane.
There's very few newer private extreme cars with plates and which are street legal. There's some tuner shops here and they might have plates on their "rolling show cases".
As a "normal" person, I've done mods which is not very common over here. Simply because we don't mod our daily rides.

Sorry Lads,I was having my beauty sleep....
All prices are in GBP and the catch can comes with the filter.Realistically speaking when it comes to visual inspections the UK will NEVER be worse than the state of California.......nevaaaar
Not now ....not 10 years from now.My advice:
* Wrinkle black/Satin black powder coated parts - intercooler hoses etc.
* Black silicone hoses
* Heat shields and heat wraping.

The catch can set up is still in production right now because I am trying to get the lines right.Trust me I will have them good to go very soon with the mock up engine. The only component you will need to worry about is the ling from the cover to the can ;)
And the first pic is satin black coil pack cover. No wrinkle black coil pack cover option.

If you want sure,we do have wrinkle black in stock so its not an issue. Its the satin black that we have to do a minimum batch of 5.

The upper outlet is for a filter. It can go back to the inlet if you want.If you want it to be satin black you will need to tell me asap as I will toss it in the batch with the covers.

How much would it be for everything including the catch can in Satin Black?
The MoffMeister
15-07-2008, 16:20
so if we got 5 satin and 1 wrinkle would you still be good for them prices or would i have to move over to the other side lol?
The wrinkle's are done.I managed to get a couple of guys from the Audi boards on the bandwagon so all thats needed is the 5 satin black covers and then we are good.
Average an extra 10 quid or so to toss the catch in the satin batch.
The MoffMeister
15-07-2008, 18:02
wicked so i'll keep to my wrinkle one then, issam richy is asking how much for everything all in the packages were after?

I did a wicked catch can set up for vidar,I will let him talk about it soon enough.
The MoffMeister
15-07-2008, 18:41
well for me issam its the following...
wrinkle rocker cover
satin black coil pack cover
block breather bits in blue if poss (the braided hoses one)
catch can annodised black
think thats it
whats special about the catch can for vidar?
He got the complete lines and fittings done up :D
So we are anodising the can black not powdercoating it? Its not economical to do 1 single can in black.I prefer to keep it simple for now.
The MoffMeister

I would like:
Satin black rocker cover
Satin black coil pack cover
Satin black oil catch can
Block breather package with Blue fittings
How Much we talking?
:D
I'm interested in the following parts Ina:
1. wrinkle-coated cam/rocker cover.
2. carbon fibre coilpack cover
3. block breather adapter
4. 2 x 90-degree -12AN-to-barb fittings (so I can push-fit 16/19mm silicone hose onto them)
Does that make sense?
richybigman
16-07-2008, 13:49

i presume also that with the catch can we get from you that the hoses will obviously all connect? also any proper pics yet of that type of set up as im a bit lost? lol

any idea on when we could get these also wondering about your inlet manis as i'd have the lot
Ok ,the valve covers @ off to be coated satin black allready. No catch can in satin black available....sorry lads but thats going to bring up the cost too much to keep having them do batchs in satin black.
I'm interested in the following parts Ina:
1. wrinkle-coated cam/rocker cover.

Makes perfect sense...tomorrow I will do up a list for you guys. This will be a complete list of everything you need for a catch can set up and such.As I told Vidar the combination I gave him was the most economical combination possible.Does not make sense buying fittings if you dont have to right?
Rob wouldnt you prefer 1 straight and 1 90* fitting?
Just for the record 12-AN signifies 12/16" just incase you guys wanted to know so if you are getting a 12-AN fitting to barb it will be 19mm.The stock nipple is around 19mm so it all works out.
There is a big difference between 16mm and 19mm so you need to tell me which it is you want.
P.S. Robdon & The MoffMeister, can you guys send me a pm today to arrange payment as the wrinkle covers are indeed ready to ship?
Thanks
19mm is what I need yes, so -12AN is spot on. 2 x 90's is what I need as my intercooler pipe is close to the cam cover outlet so needs a 90 there and a 90 off the block adapter will be spot on too, all I need is a 19mm barbed t-piece and some 19mm black silicone hose to complete it all.
I have a Saikou Mitchi baffled catch can already which has 19mm fittings - so it's all good! Had a good look through the 034 website and there is SO much stuff I want!!!!!!!!!1
BTW - is this item a 19mm black silicone 3-way pipe? Could be a much neater option than a plastic t-piece.

So there is no chance of getting an oil catch can in Satin Black then?
The man says no! However you could always have it powdercoated or painted satin black, or even go for the Saikou Mitchi can which is black already?

Yes thats for the stock Audi A4 1.8T.Will work for what you guys want to do...I am working on a kit for the A4 lads right now.The only issue with the above silicone hose is it will point your 2nd outlet towards your firewall. If you guys have no issue with that then I can cook up a kit no problem.
The man says no! However you could always have it powdercoated or painted satin black, or even go for the Saikou Mitchi can which is black already?
You cant powdercoat the catch can I offer .Its proven to be difficult, thats why it has a sort of wire brush finish to it.I tried...it didnt work :(
If it's reversed it will point towards the front of the car! My thought was to have a straight barb off the block breather into this piece, top outlet to the cam cover, side outlet to the can. Would look very clean.
If it's reversed it will point towards the front of the car! My thought was to have a straight barb off the block breather into this piece, top outlet to the cam cover, side outlet to the can. Would look very clean.
Ok lets start from the top:
3/4" NPT to 12-AN barb (from block breather) ---> approx 50mm of 19mm ID silicone hose ---> approx 30mm of 19mm OD aluminum tubing ---> bottom inlet of silicone hose ---> 30mm of 19mm OD aluminum tubing ----> More 19mm ID silcone hose ----> catch can?
Like this?
The idea I had was this: http://i312.photobucket.com/albums/ll330/SonicBlueLeon/breather.gif
Make sense? If not then forget it and go back to the original plan of 2 x 90's.
The MoffMeister
17-07-2008, 16:56
ina as for payment can i pay you for when all the bits are ready so to send over in one lump?
also rob on your drawing where would the second outlet be on your catch can or you doing away with it?
The can outlet just goes back to the intake or just a breather filter on it, I didn't bother putting that in.
The MoffMeister
17-07-2008, 17:28
ah i see as issam asked me if i wanted a filter or an fittings so i dont know lol
If the catch can is baffled then a hose back to the intake is the best option, a filter can often stink of engine fumes, a hot oil smell, not very 'carbon footprint' eco friendly - lol! People often say the vacuum from the intake helps seal the piston rings too.
The MoffMeister
17-07-2008, 17:43
ok cheers rob
so issam is the catch can baffled? sounds best lol
Like I've written, this is mine, sounds like it's baffled, in a way.
Vortex design means incoming gasses hit round cylinder wall being forces to spin in a "vortex", centrifugal force causes oil and water particles to fling outward and drain down the walls to be collected or returned to the sump.
The outlet on the can extends down 4" inside the can to create a baffle and prevent incomming fluids to being expelled directly out the can.
Sounds not bad, not as good as the Saikou Mitchi but still better than an empty can. The Vortex can also says it has 1" ports which are 25mm - you need 19mm to match the PCV which the 951 can has (the one I got).

Not bashing the 034 product, just letting y'all know what's what. :)

Thats confusing....put the silicone on the valve cover not on the block breather.Agreed?
ina as for payment can i pay you for when all the bits are ready so to send over in one lump?
Ye 1 lump is fine...the bits you need are pretty much ready to go.If you want to take this to the PM's let me know.

That can serves the same purpose as the vortex can we sell.As for the fittings the cans I have sold so far have had 12-AN fittings welded onto them.I am aware of the 1" inlet and outlet ,thats why some customers have 12-AN fittings welded onto there cans.

NO! Forget this idea and just stick to 2 x 90 -12AN barbed fittings and a t-piece with 19mm black silicone hose and it will work fine.
Got you chief, the same T-piece you requested before?
Yeah, just a 19mm barbed t-piece.

Satin Black Rocker Cover
Satin Black Coil Pack Cover
And the 1/2" NPT to 19mm nipple
:D
I may just cancel all the other stuff and go for a SEM manifold, probably alot more useful than 'looky-nicey' bits! and may add power and/or response. I'll wait to see how much they are as I'll have to change all my intercooler pipes into an LCR style configuration - but that's easy enough.
Allright guys I am back in action.....wow! what a weekend!!
cost me a toe but I am good to go.All orders will be processed in the morning when I get into the office.
The SEM Manifolds will start shipping next week monday so first come first serve.

You might want to update the list on the first post to say i've paid and that i didn't want the block breather package, to avoid confusion :D
Ok - I'm not going to be able to buy anything just from you INA, my turbo has let go today, burning oil, smoke and weird screeching noises from it, so I can't buy anything else until it's fixed/swapped etc..

Sounds like the excuse you've been looking for Rob.;)
On the down side i would have thought the turbo should have lasted longer.
Me too, couple of years old but hasn't seen very much abuse really, low mileage and no trackdays. Been running it at 1.4 BAR for a while though, I'm guessing that's too much for it in stock form. Apparently over 1 BAR needs a 360 degree thrust bearing not the stock 270 degree one, I also believe this turbo SHOULD come with an oil restrictor to reduce oil pressure, it doesn't and that's why I think it's blown eventually.
CR have already said they can fit an oil restrictor to protect the seals.
Ok covers are being completed now.Who wants?
Are you sending stuff out now? I'm very eager over here. :bounce:
What turbo you want Rob? :D
Vidar its out the door this week!
Don't know - most likely I'll get CR Turbos to fix and upgrade it or buy the JBS04, have CR fix the GT2X and then sell it. Not really ANY other affordable choices around in the UK right now - unless anyone can point me towards anything?

When i took my original seal off it had sealer in each corner. Bearing in mind i've had the car from new and the cover has never been off before i thought it best to put some back on to stop any potential leaks.
That cover came off allready then and the dealership/whoever did not tell you.Volkswagen does not use any sealant on any sealing surface.

Hi issam, looking to get my new valve cover now. Just to confirm, the block breather deal for £145 will include:
1. Wrinkle-coated valve cover with 1/2"NPT to -12AN fitting.
2. Raw stainless coilpack cover.
3. Block breather adapter with 3/4"NPT to -12AN fitting.
That's what I'm after, is that correct?
Rob that IS correct :D
I am just going based on what the US to UK conversion rate is.
Cool - payment sent for above items. I decided I'm going to paint the raw stainless coilpack cover in matt black heat resistant paint, rather than go for the carbon one, it has a textured finish which looks close to the wrinkle finish.
Got it
Always a pleasure doing business with you mate
Likewise.
Oh, just for information, after searching Google, AN and JIC are the same so you can use -12 JIC fittings on the -12 AN adapters. JIC fittings are easily found in the UK, but not AN ... so there you go!

You can go this road, 1/2" NPT to 3/4" barb fitting:

Or the more fancy road: You need a 1/2" NPT to -12 AN...

Rob, I am thinking of this setup for my 180 Leon....would you say this looks right in regards to the barb fittings? you ordered to 90 degree bends, but I am not sure this would work out on my engine bay
1.Satin black cam/rocker cover.
2. carbon fibre coilpack cover (does this come with bolts)
3. Complete catch can setup
4. block breather adapter (if not included in catch can setup)
5. 1 x 90-degree -12AN-to-barb fittings (so I can push-fit 16/19mm silicone hose onto them)
6. 1 x straight - 12AN-to-barb fittings (so I can push fit 16/19mm silicone hose onto them)
thanks

I will try this, as my Forge cap does this as well...when I get the car back! I have to laugh, tis all I can do now as I keep saying that:lol:
Well today I tried to fit the block breather adapter, but even with the retaining clip in place it rattles around in the hole, seems too small? The OE plastic elbow sits in nice and tight by comparison. I compared them side by side and end to end and the adapter is definately shorter and slightly narrower.
I think I've had an idea to help press it down to create a solid seal - by adding an additional ring on top, the securing clip will slide on top of that pushing down harder to create a more solid and secure fitment?
Shouldnt have to do any of that Rob.Mine is pretty snug fit with the OE seal.
I can't use this one as it's so loose there is no chance of it sealing. I'll look at it again and try swapping the seals over to see if that makes any difference.
On the plus side the new valve cover, heatshield and top breather fitting all look really great!

Nah, too formal! ;) I got the block breather adapter to fit better just by swapping the seals over, the OE one is a bit thicker, so it makes a better seal and the whole thing is more firm, so it's fitted along with another -12JIC Goodridge fitting to match the upper one.
