Hello all,

Due to some heavy accelerating and braking, me front's are getting a bit worn. Therefore, I want to change the front and rear wheels over so I can wear them out too and eventually get some new boots all round.

Is there any rules about which fronts and rears should be swapped around? Someone mentioned to me that you need to swap the front right with the rear left and vice versa? Is this true? :dunno:

I know they've all been balanced, so is there anything I need to know?

Check teh direction on teh tyres - reckon it'll be Left front to left rear, right front to right rear.

I have always been told you should swap diagonally (left rear to right front, etc).

Unless, as m0rk says, it would mess up your directional tyres....

What do I do if I want to reverse the car?:hammer:

I always make sure that before attempting any reversing manouvres (sp) I jump out & change the wheels about to ensure directional stability.

....and don't forget to move your Radar Detector into the back window, and plug it into the 12V socket in the boot...... :D

If the tread depth is substantially different be careful when you drive. My previous set up of (softish) brand new F1s on the front and (rock hard 30k old) below-the-marker-like-cut-slicks Michelins on the rear changed the balance of the car completely.

Cheers for the help peeps.

I changed front right with rear left etc.

Car feels fine, and grips better is the wet!!

Propably best to check with your tyre manufacturer. Pirelli recommend swapping fronts with rear (not diagonal), but only if you have same tyres all around. See their website, plenty of info on there http://www.pirelli.co.uk/en_GB/tyres/car_suv/utility_services/tech/tech4_gb.jhtml

Sorry if this sounds daft but how does everyone do this in terms of practicalities? Do you guys have ramps you put the car on or do you put it on four axle stands? Reason I'm asking is that I have no access to the gear to do it but I'm keen to do so. Would a place like Kwik-fit do it for a fee?

Also I'm on 5k miles just now and don't drive the car too hard, when would I be best to do this.

cheers in advance

2 jacks or a jack and a stand will do the job nicely.

Alternatively just use the spare as a dummy while swapping them around ;)

will go for the two jaks me thinks. I recon I'll change them round at about 10k. Like I said I treat her quite gently!
