just wondering if my ibiza TDi sport (03 plate) had a cd changer lead from the factory fitted headunit (alana unit) pre installed.
can anyone advise me on any suitable entertainment equipment i can add to my standard unit.
i have a vdo dayton 6 disk changer and i have read on here that custom interface cables can be made, can the vdo dayton be fitted? if not why not?
any help would be great as i really want to add either mp3 or a changer to my car.

Change the HU. It's surprising how rubbish the standard one is when you hear another one in its place.

thats a good idea.
can anyone explain how i would go about removing the standard head unit as the manual is rubbish.
can anyone also advise me on a new headunit purchase as i want it to fit into the look of the dashboard like the original one does.
I really dont have a clue.

Myself and toxxin have just installed new units, Rage and others have also. The Alana comes out easy (if you have the keys) I went to a vw garage and the guy took it out in 1 min.
I went for the Clarion DXZ838RMP mainly because it plays mp3/wma files. It looks good and has a fine sound, only prob is now i might have to change the speakers....When will it end.
Have a look at the ICE forum,lots of info on it.
I just took put the cubby beneath (pull HARD) and then wiggled the stereo around and it came out.
I replaced it with a Blaupunkt Woodstock - black with red illumination, MP3, DAB, changer control.
I put a clarion DXZ928R in mine. because I liked the way it sounded.

Fen do you recon the Blaupunkt is a good match i.e. the red LCD?
Do you have any pics? Does it play wma files too?
Will try and get some pics of the Clarion this week
If i can borrow Leos new £500 digi camera.....:D (whats that a flying policeman)

Does anyone have experience of the Sony CDX-M1000TF headunit.
If I install any new headunit into my ibiza will I have to do anything special or will the new unit just replace the original unit directly?

The red colour match was pretty perfect.
I think it's mp3 only as far as digital formats go.
I have put a sony into mine. 5 min job when you have got the keys.

I have read reviews of the Sony headunits and they seem to point to the fact that the sound quality is not as good as other brands on the market.
I am looking at the CDXM1000TF unit with the tft display.
Can anyone advise me on a good quality unit which has mp3 functionality?
can anyone give me personal experience of sony headunits?
I need help choosing a new headunit to replace my standard one so any advice would be great.

I have got a mini disc head unit, wasn't much something like £160 and it isn't any better sound quality wise as the original HU.

To be honest that Blaupunkt looks pretty good.
My HU broke today!
I'm not a happy person, especially as I've fallen out with my girlfriend who has my Alana at the moment.
For anyone who wants to know, I turned the unit down to wave a girl past that was walking where I wanted to go. I turned it up and it cut out. It has not been able to turn on since. I've checked the wiring, the red wire shows power, no others show power. I've checked the fuses on the car and all of them are fine. There isn't actually a visible fuse on the HU, so I hope there's one internall that the local Clarion dealer can sort out tomorrow.
Is yellow wire showing power when the ignition is on. Cos that needs to be 12v as well.
Stupid question so don't take it personally but did you check the fuses under the battery cover as well as the ones in the dash? .

I didn't actualy know there were fuses in the battery tray, I thought that there were only fuses on the side of the dash. I won't take it wrongly mate as it helps a great deal. I've asked a few people and none of them knew there were fuses there.
Give me a couple of minutes and I'll check it out.

I can't find any fuses under the bonnet!
Maybe I wasn't being dumb or I'm even dumber by not seeing them!
Maybe its only on the TDi. But if you lift up the top cover on the battery you'll see a few metal links which are fuses for various systems.
Absence of switched power on the Yellow wire points to a Car fault rather than a Stereo one though so must be fuse blown somewhere. or a dodgy connection.
I checked under the battery cover and there was nothing.
I've checked and renewed the fuses in the car and there is still nothing. Perhaps an embarrasing trip to SEAT in the next few days.

THere wil def be fuses on top of the battery, there is kind of 2 covers the fistone covers the fuses the second (which the fuses are on) covers the battery. I doubt it willl be one of them as they are all for the engine and high current stuff.
I thought there was an inline fuse on the power cable!!. Is there not a blade type fuse in the back of the unit.
Got me worried now.
I am still waiting for Clarion to get back to me on the Calibration thing.
My mates got the AA out because my mate's Nova broke down at college. I'm gonna quiz him in a bit once he's done ripping the ignition system out.
