Should be picking up my LCR MK1 in red by the weekend.
Obviously the first thing i need to change is the ICE! Cant be driving around with a tape deck! lol!
So what headunit/upgrade would you recommend and do u think i should keep the cd changer aswell? plus does it play mp3 cd's?
I want a head unit that plays mp3's, takes usb, ipod, bluetooth, dab, and if poss DVD with built in screen.
Also do i need a speaker upgrade, or are the standard car ones any good?

Howdo,
First question...how much do you want to spend???
Right now onto the other bits & pieces...
Standard changer wont play MP3 discs.
Most H/U's wont work with the standard changer & besides if you want an MP3 H/U you probably wont use it anyway...I tend to get 5/6 albums per MP3 disc so quite happy to live without my changer :)
Standard speakers are ok if you just want to run from the H/U if you get bit by the ICE bug then I'd deffinitley recommend upgrading them to better one's again though that will come down to budget (For example my front components were originally £800 when they were released so it can get mighty expensive :) lol )
Let me know an approx budget for the H/U & U'm sure we can come up wirth something for you.

Cheers man, well ideally the max i wana spend on ICE in the car inc speakers and headunit would be £750, with a HU max price of around £350.

No problem :)
Righto the next thing then is do you want Subs as well??
£750 is a nice budget.
If you happy to go 2nd hand then the world is your oyster
But I reckon I can spec you a system for £750 brand new which will sound infinitley better than standard.
Give me a little bit & I'll be back :)

Cheers, well ive already got a kenwood 1000watt sub from my old car and an amp. But for the time being i was thinking of upgrading the speakers and headunit, get some tweaters, and leave the sub for time being.

Anywho in that case look at this H/U...
Clarion VRX588RUSB - £340

7" fold out screen
DivX Compatible
MP3 Compatible
Rear USB input
3 Preouts
These Speakers...
DLS MS6A - £140.00

If you dont want to spend that on the speakers then might I recommend...
DLS RS6 Slimline - £110
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/dls-rs6-slimline-p-5541.html
That still leaves you at least £270 from your budget for another amp/Sub if you fancy a change from the one's you have already.
Is that a Mono amp or multi channel jobbie by the way??
Dont forget to sound deaden as well...you will need it.
Best advice anyone ever gave me about ICE was dont scrimp on the deadening, you will gain so much from the speakers by mounting & deadening properly.

Cheers, with the headunit i was thinking more of a dvd unit with a built in 3.5' screen in the actual HU, than a fold out one. Also are the above speakers door or shelf ones, cos ideally i was thinking get some tweaters and upgrade the door ones, dont wana draw attention to the car with speakers in the shelf.
The amp is multi channel as far as i know.
Also what do you meal re: deadening? im a novice to all this!
in my last lcr i did all of the upgrades lol, at one point i had about 12-14 speakers in, for me the leon has a great sound stage. speaker wise dont rule out xile they make some real good products,

Lol dont worry we all started somewhere :)
With regards to deadening basically it's a matrial that you stick to door panels, boot panels etc to stop vibration & rattles from the panels & helps produce a better sound from the speakers.
I used this in my Leon...

In all honesty I'd recommend the Clarion over the H/U screens...much better quality for Video & loads easier to see especially if you fancy using the aux input to wire a PS2/X-Box in as well ;)
The speakers are component speakers (Mid-Bass & Seperate Tweeter) & would replace the one's in your door.
If you wann see what I did to mine have a look here...

There are a couple of pics in there that show you where I've fitted the Sound deadening so might make it a bit clearer for you as to how it's used.
Also I recommend signing up to www.talkaudio.co.uk
It is without a doubt the best Car Audio based forum on the web & will be a real help to you if your just starting out...it's where I started out :)
