View Full Version : 1.8 to 1.9?
Can you have the 1.8 20vt bored to have a larger displacement? Like 1.9?
Just an idea! Would it be strong enough?

TSR do such conversions I believe.

What it will give you bang for bucks is prolly not worth it though.
Dor.
what size is it bored out to, do you know? How much does it cost? I'm just not sure if it would be reliable, especially under high boost...

The 1.8 N/A Petrol 16v (dunno if it's the same basic bore construction as the deisel) can only be taken out to 1.9.
Dor.
is it worth having it bored to 2.0l?

isn't the 20vt a completeley different block to ones before it?
ie 20valves would need different oil and water channels?just a thought ;)

On a turbocharged engine there's not a lot of point in increasing engine capacity when you can just wind up the boost, as after all more boost = more air and fuel, just like more capacity does.
However when you get close to the limits of boost pressure & chargecooling etc, then increased capacity will release more power, but until this point it's not really viable in terms of £ per bhp.
TSR has a 2.0 20VT engine for sale, a few 'extras' too, but the price? A whopping £4.5k.
From "Maximum Boost" (Corkey Bell) it says that power increase from boring out the engine is linearly proporial to the increase. So, if you bored out a 2 litre engine to 2.2litres, thats a 10% increase in capacity so thats a 10% increase in power. So, taking the 1.8 to 1.9 or 2.0 litres would only give a small increase in power. As Max_T says, probably not worth it on a tubo engine.
Cheers
