I have a vibe cbr and a sony explod powered by a fusion powerplant ( i know loads of different brands :( )

but yesterday i experienced a loud thudd from the subs as soon as i turn my HU on. i have had this set up for little over a year and it has been fine up till last night...

the only thing i remember doing before the problem was going into the boot and lifting up my false floor ( relevance is that i grounded the wires there) im not sure what the problem is. i thought it could be the ground but i checked this morning and it seems fine. all fuses are okay and remote amp wire is connected fine too...

 need urgent help on this as i need it ready for ED38 on sunday :(

update:

once the sub and HU is on and i turn on the engine, i can actually hear the engine ticking over from out of the subs..

when the car is off and music is practically so low you cant hear it you can hear/feel (by touch) a low frequency grumbling popping. I need :help: very very soon!

Could be a ground problem.

Try moving your ground point & see if that fixes anything.

Could be when you've lifted the false floor the wires have moved slightly & it's not making a good connection anymore??

Thats what i thought...so i disconnected and reconnected the ground in the same place as the wire seemed to be a lil loose but prob was still there...

went to halfords and even those guys were miffed!

i'd say come to tooting and get my mates to have a butchers

or try replacing the ground cable...

surely though if it were a ground i wouldnt get any power or sound? as the circuit wouldnt be right?

If the ground was completley fubbard then you'd get no sound as the circuit wouldnt be good like you said, but if it's still making a connection but not a very good one then you'd get the thud & interference like you are so I do think it's a dodgy earth connection personally.

But dont take my word for it as I've only just done my own first install myself so still learning as I go anyway ;)

where have you got it earthed? if you turn the amp off do you get the noise through your normal speakers?

likewise mate...ill have another look closer tonight..take out everything retrace the wires, plug up everything, then reground it in a better place...see how that goes..

it is earthed in the wheel well. sanded it down then put a bolt through. havent checked if there is noise through the door speakers..doubt it though :(

i had this problem mate. Does it also whine when you move the steering wheel? I took mine to source in Chapeltown. They sorted it. Im a novice but this may make sense to you. They said they had to run rca cables down different side of the car to other ones??? Makes no sense to me.
Anyways it sorted it, hope this helps.

i tried grounding it where u did, and it seemed to work for a second... as in i turned the HU on and no thud :D but then i kept doing it just to confirm that it was now ok, but :( sadly back to the same old problem....

i'd still say bring it to tooting and have my mates look at it...not 2 far for you either

Hmmm could be the ground cable itself is the problem then.

Might be worth replacing it & trying again...if that doesnt fix it then I really am stumped :confused:

yeahh mate, but the thing is with that is it has been fine all this time up till i lifted up the false floor.

the thing about wiring it on the other side is that the power wire fluctuates and if the RCA is too close to it it picks up the fluctuations and turns it into noise (unwanted sound) *at least thats how i remember it being told to me...

Neill, i had a proper look at the wiring and the ground cable seems to be fine. they are all pretty new 4AWG cables. i also looked at my remote wire as it usually is the connection, but both sides were fine :( i really am stumped. im going to try what you suggested and change the ground cables.

nick, i would bring it up to your mates but surely it would be short notice? i need it done right now and dont have time tonight as im preparing for edition38. does you mate have a shop or can i meet him/you?? PM me..

I had this problem... fixed it by (might have different setup than yours though) i use a high-low converter which i origanly used of the back speakers.....made the tick and on/off thump noise.. moved the converter to the headunit and earthed it there (converter has seperate earth) and it was gone, think it was something to do with either been earthed to close to the amp earthing point or picking up interfernce from the power cable which run parrallel to the standard car wires for the back speakers....

test the wire continuity with a multimeter and check for short circuit!
