Hello all,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but what the heck.

It's almost that time when I need to decide where to get my car from. Import or UK dealer. My choice of car is a Ibiza 20VT.

I'm changing my car in the middle of March and therefore, should I take the import option, it's time to order.

I've looked at many import sites and towards the end of last week, have been in regular contact with Pieter Gordon from United Motors in Holland, who I must say is very helpful!
The price from United would be about £11k, a £2k saving from UK price.

But, I've spoken to a few dealers here in the UK, and many are prepared to sort some kind of deal. Bells in Stockport offered to take 5-6% off the retail, which put's it at about £12,250 ish.

So, we have a difference of about £1.25k. To be honest, I prefer the purchase in UK option and know you can pick up some good deals, as I've read a few in these forums. It's also less hassle and you get the full 3 year warranty. But, on an import, you have the savings and it also comes with auto-dimming rear view mirror and rain sensitive wipers. Against it though, is you only have one years warranty.

I'm also confused about the registration of the car. Can I get an import registered as a UK car rather than an import?

What is the general thought, should I go for import and UK dealership?

Any experience of importing, UK savings, advice etc all greatly received!

Cheers,

Chris.

1.25k is still 1.25k!!!

With the warranty: All Seats purchased from within the Eu now have a 2 Year warranty, though not sure if it's two years manufacturer, or 1 yr man and 1 yr dealer. All uk dealers are bound to service and repair an import as part of their franchise contract apparently.

I don't know about the registration part though. My importer is importing the car for me, so that I am the first reg'd owner.

Hope this helps.

I was looking at the different options for about two months before I decided to go with the deal that the local dealership offered to me...both ways have pros and cons but I thought that the safety of going to a UK dealer meant that you had no other hassles to deal with and when you add up all the time and money spent on a import is there that much difference when it comes down to it?

The decision has got to be yours to be honest...loads of people will give you different advice, and it will leave you all over the place trust me.

Go with your gut feeling and then at leat if it F***S up then It will be your own decision?

The good thing is that with the amount of people that have done it both ways on this forum I would have said that you will get a lot of good advice no matter what you do!

Good luck......my beeza cupra is now 3 weeks old I think and apart from a couple of niggles is superb!

Well said Cupra Si!

At the end of the day the choice is yours (obviously), but a forum like this is great for unbiased opinion - as long as its a Seat!!!:D

All the best in buying your car, but as I say use these forums for info and you cant go wrong.
