Daz,

Do you know if you can get any other covers for the black plastic engine cover type thing?

Cheers.

You could get a stainless one.... But I think they were £1000...

The stainless is actually an aluminium one was by Essex Motorport and was made for the Golf IV so it'll only fit the Leon i believe, but £1000 for polished Aluminium is bit steep.

I think SEAT do a carbon one that comes with the Cupra R Ibiza, but thats meant to be several hundred too.

Maybe worth spraying the exisiting one, like Dave (GTEvo) had done to his.

The other thing you could do is get some of that Carbon fibre sticker material that you sometimes see in car shops and have a play or.....

and this is a bit dependent on heat, you could get a vac-form done of the panel, again carbon fibre effect is available, although some dont look too hot.

Two ways of approaching this, you could pull a conponent off of your existing cover. This would mean it would be a couple of mm bigger, but you should be ok, you might have to fabricate and bond some fixings.

Or get a wooden tool made, which could be to your own shape and detail. Will end up looking better as well.

Best thing is to look at some vac-formers in the phone book and have a chat. If your a good carpenter, you'll be able to do the mould yourself. The conponent isnt that expensive either.

In a work capacity I have used a company called AVAK before in Godalming in Surrey. They do most of the vac-forming for McLaren, BAR and a couple of other teams. They are dead slow though

The Cupra R Carbon Fibre one is reputed to be about 500 quid from Seat Sport in Spain....ouch!!

Not worth it at all!!!!

On the subject of carbon. Essex racing will sell you carbon sheet to the size you want. Why not get hold of a sheet the right size and bond it onto the cover yourself? Carbon is actually not that hard to work with and then you would have a real carbon top to the engine cover...

Cheers Pete, I think that I have dealt with essex racing before so I will give them a bell today and see what they say, It might be a case of re-spray and my Golf is getting some bits done next week so I will see if it can be done!

Have you had a look at any other 20vt engine cover's as they are all different. ie vw/Audi ones?

Most should fit but be carefull of tt/s3 ones as the turbo pipes seperate the cover into two bits.

although painting it is the option i would go for.
