I've had a Milltek cat and exhaust for a while. Whenever the car is hot after driving on a warm day or hard driving when the stainless steel has expanded a little it has a habit of vibrating against the underside of the car when under load in reverse.
Looking at it there's very little room for adjustment, has anyone else had this and it's unavoidable or is it worth trying to cure?
Cheers, Andrew
How about some strategic exhaust wrap to pad it out?
I think the same happened with Sauls supersprint,A bit of tweeking by the lads at Awesome GTI and it all was sorted.
think they just realligned it or something.
My jetex does the same but only when i am really giving it some, normal driving and no noise at all.

Cool, I'll have a play then. When AmD fitted it they said there was like no room left and it took some adjusting to fit snug.
Yer mine was due to one of the clamps coming loose.
The Miltek has a 2.5" bore which takes it very close when it goes over the rear beam, some heat wrap would curb the noise but its a common thing, only real cure is moving it around by hand, fiddly job.

Mine fits fine and has zero rubbage so it is possible.
Its is close, but proper fitment gets it right.

It doesn't rub exactly, it's fine in forward gears, but under load in reverse it vibrates against the exhaust tunnel on the underside. As you say it most likely needs a slight adjustment or something has come loose.
looks like mine's doing the same thing, the knocking starts after about 10 min of driving and mostly round corners, looks like a trip back to AMD on the 16th.

mine did this too... only when warm and it resonated nicely against the heat sheild at about 2000 rpm.
I took it back to the fitters 3 times and they appologised every time... It is very close under there...
I finally put a jublie round the rubber mount behind the rear wheel and i can now adjust the height it sits at ... too stop the rattle i had to have a knock... to get rid of the knock - the rattle retunred...
I took a screwdriver and mallet to the heat sheild last week... and i have finally persuaded the heat shield and zorst that they dont what to rub... finally!
I have exactly the same problem, I actually took mine back to Milltek and the problem is still there. Even though Milltek have offered a loan car until they can fix the problem I do not have time to go back up there. Mine is knocking against the rear axle.
I've been told that using a large cable tie around the rubber donut and raising by a couple of mm may stop the problem. EDC also advised using exhaust wrap around the axle to nullify the noise.
Hope this helps

i've got exactly the same problem, get it when i take left hander, and sometimes when it feels like it, was realy annoying at first, cramed some foil in there and it sorted it till it fell out, but well its part of the car now, i learned to live with it :)

I have nice shiney patches where it was rubbing... it will cause damage eventually

Mine was fine till the milltek cat was fitted then it started to slightly knock .
Now its lowered on the pss9's i've had to stuff Rockwool over the rear beam and wedged some in the tunnel where the centre section is as the zorst was trying to hammer its way through the bottom of the car .
Still not cured .
Have had the exhaust looked at and adjusted several times but no success .:(

All sounds a bit unlucky :( Since fitting a Seat Sport suspension kit courtesy of Badger5 and having the exhaust check to make sure it wouldn't catch everything seems fine with mine. I must be lucky and have hit on the problem area first time around. I don't really catch it over the rear cross member, can't you lift the exhaust up slightly with shorter rubber exhaust mounts or it there no room?
Andrew.

I think the problem is as the rubber exaust mounts perish a bit, there not so stiff, and this gives the exhaust a bit of travel, mine was ok, not a peep until not so long ago, supose I should do something about it, next time its sunny, i'll get some exhaust wrap, and see how i get on.
no room to raise it as it then rattles on the heat sheild... lower it to stop the rattle and it knocks on the rear beam... Mine is fine now...
oh and this was straight after fitting it... no time time for the rubber to perish...
Has anyone else noticed how much the exhaust 'grows' when its hot... mine sticks out about 1.5" further when hot :D
Really! grow 1.5" when hot. I wouldn't expect that atall. Stainless steel shouldn't expand or contract much atall. When the exhaust first gets warm it may expand .5" at most and then it will settle and shouldn't do it any more. To put it into context Scorpion do a full system for the Mitsubishi Evo 7 Tommi Makkinen edition and they use thicker wall tubing which will expand more and don't forget the car is a fair bit longer aswell and that grew .9" the first time it was run and then settled. Scorpion design their systems with a tiny bit of expansion but 1.5" is over double from what they expect from their system. and it should only do it once and settle.
I hope this helps

hello,
just been to AMD fitted the new 35mm springs and guess what the rattle has stopped, fingers crossed it won't return.
Just had the car too low before, it was knocking on the rear beam.
Cheers

Stainless Steel has a huge coefficient of expansion... so expands like hell.
My Miltek expands by about 1.5" at the tail pipes when hot.
It is'nt unusual.
