View Full Version : ICE question
Was mainly just wondering how people create big sound systems within cars that can barly run the nessary applications. I know you can upgrade the battery but if you upgrade the battery you alternator can only put out a certain ampage and your battery can only charge as fast as your alternator outputs so i don't understand how this all works?
Don't have the first notion of what i could search because one amp powering one sub in my ibiza is nearly going to kill it since the battery is like 44amps/hr and the amplier is rated 40 amps
Thanks
try posting in the i.c.e section!
no one ever answers in the ICE section, try icecarvern forum if no one helps here.

You are probably over complicating it thinking about it. You just use a combination of extra batteries and/or power caps (or whatever they are called now) to provide enough power.

www.talkaudio.co.uk is good for all things ICE.
The 40amp 'rating' of your amp is the theoretical maximum current draw that the amp can pull but it wont get to this when just playing music.
I have a system that can theoretically pull over 200amps and the battery is the standard 90 amp/hour (i think its 90?) that came with the car
There is a whole load of theory on the net about power capacitors and how useful/useless they are but the general consensus is that they useless in providing extra power to a system, especially considering their price. It is a debatable subject but personaly i dont think they help. I have tried with and without and found no difference in stopping the voltage drop either way. At best they are a patch up solution that can be cured more effectively by other means
Hope this helps but there is a lot more info on talkaudio
Cheers for the replys, Its just that my old car battery died and it was a bigger ampage than the ibiza but now i also have a bigger amp plus wanting an amp for the speakers but nothing too big just enough to get them boosted in noise a bit.
I'm not pro with the sound systems but im not stupid either just needs learn moer about them but thanks for the website link

how much rms you running?
emm id be running about 350rms for the one sub just and one sub looks to be all i can get really without pliting the wattage but im wanting to possible get an amp to run 6x9's and a set of comps possibly
No problems at all with that power. I myself am running 1200rms on stock battery and alternator in my 1.4 ibiza.
is the alternator for the 1.4 not bigger?
