alright

i bought an amp, its a legacy one and ive got a sony cdxl450 headunit. The amp says to connect the remote antenna lead to the remote antenna lead in the back of the headunit, done. But the amp switches off when i change to the listen to the cd, but works with the radio.

anyway, my headunit isnt connected to the ignition, is this anythin to do with it? or can any1 see where i'm goin wrong

Seems a little strange. When you say you haven't got your HU connected to the ignition, I presume you have the wire from the HU that should go to the ignition connected directly to the battery?

well the headunit only comes on and off wen i press the off button rather than turn off wen i take the keys out, i was wonderin if that had anythin to do with the amp power, through the antenna lead

You should have a red and yellow lead connected to the HU. Have you connected both to the battery?

But I don't see how this would be causing your problem though.

it sounds like the HU cuts power to the antena when your not listening to the radio. Try to find a power source that only comes on when you switch the ignition on or use a meter to see if any of the wires in the loom only come on when you switch the ignition on.
I once used the light surounding the lighter for remote power as that only came on when i switched the ignition on.

One thing I haven't mentioned is that in the Leon the perm 12V and ignition are swapped over.

Also, following what Xtremist has suggested may induce a popping. When you turn on the ignition, that then turns on the HU which then turns on the amp. Theres a chance that the amp could turn on before the HU and so when the HU powers up may cause a popping sound heard through the speakers.

But to me it sounds very odd that the amp powers down when you select the CD.

should an amp even have a remote antenna lead? I was assuming that you meant a remote power lead? If you've hooked this up to the remote antena power lead on the headunit it makes sense that this would switch the amp off when you listen to the CD since the headunit no longer need to send power to the antenna as it's not being used?

Very good point, but very few HU have separate remote turn on and aerial power. Definately worth a check.

There maybe a blue(white stripe) connected to the ISO connector and a separate one with just a bullet connector on. You should connect the amp to the bullet connector as the one connected to the ISO connector is more likely for the aerial power.
