View Full Version : Re-chipping...

Does anyone know if it's possible to rechip a car that's already been chipped ?

Mine was chipped by Seat Holland (an AMD chip apparently), but it's not as powerful as Revo / Jabba. I haven't had it on a RR but I should think it's 160-odd bhp (quoted as 155 bhp, but I expect it might be a bit higher as most 130's give more than 130 as stock).

When I bought it, I liked the idea of it retaining the manufacturers warranty. If I could get a "stealthy" upgrade, Seat would still think it had the manufacturers upgrade (I have a "Tuned by Seat" stamp in the service book) and therefore still covered by warranty...

Whether I'd ever get round to doing it I'm not sure, but I'd be interested to know if it could be done. Not sure if the AMD is a physical re-chip, or a reprogram.

What's the current prices for Revo & Jabba upgrades on a TDI 130 ?
I believe they're very similar in output.

Cheers

AMD is a physical replacement

to be revo'd you'd have to goto Revo HQ so that they can replace the 'chip' with a new blank one.

They're not far from you

in that repect neither are jabba - horses for courses

I'd guess you'd be better going to someone like Jabba or AMD as they'd swap the chip out anyway as part of the job.
P.S. i'd recommend Jabba ;)

On PD TDI75/130/150 engines you do not need to use the old chiptuning method, you can just flash the ECU (serial programming) with upgraded software in a few minutes, via diagnostic port. A lot of european tuners do this kind of job, in UK at least Superchips already use this method for some time.
It´s easy, safe, quick, easly reversable in a few minutes, and leaves no traces at all wich is very good for possibly warranty issues. ;)

I´ve also seen an AMD tuned A3 TDI130 (chip announced 155bhp) that dynoed a healthy 171bhp/370Nm. Stock values were 147bhp/340Nm.
You can extract from this engine (PD TDI130) around 180bhp with very little smoke and strong reliability.

All true, but superchips havent been doing it for that long. (i assume your talking about bluefin)

But to flash thro the obd port requires you to have the original stock EPROM in place, which muddyboots hasnt.

Sounds like I should get it on a RR first to see what it's really putting out. If I could be getting around 170bhp then it's not really worth the money for the extra 10bhp or so.

How much is the jabba conversion - anyone know ?

Gleistung -> As far as Seat are concerned, they should honour the warranty even if I get it Revo'd/Jabba'd, because I have a stamp in the service book that says Seat chipped it ;)

Only SEAT Holland will warrant the chip though. not SEAT UK.

I asked about that when I bought the car, I was told it was covered by the factory warranty, and as the standard factory warranty is EU-wide I should be OK....

IIRC Jabbachip was about £350. Maybe nearer to £400 now.

I though most chiptuners encrypt their software so wouldn't that stop you from flashing the chip? Would of thought so..
