Well there I was looking forward to having my car REVO'd this weekend.
I'm 43
Full No Claims
Clean Licence
Live in a low crime area of Harrogate
Have a car worth about 11k tops
and my insurers say they won't cover me for the Revo..
Not only that but its insured as a Company car and theyre stinging the company for £1100 a year anyway.
If I insure the car personally it would only cost about £400 for me as above...GGGRRRRRRRR

Perhaps they have seen some of your posts and decided you were in a high risk bracket!!! LOL. (Your posts are funny though)

I'm going to swap insurers and get a rebate from the robbers..
I'm going to insure it personally so who is best for that?
I want all the luxuries of fully comp..the cortesy and hire cars etc not a cut price operation..sensible excesses etc
Mark,
This might not seem too sensible, but given Revo's stealth aspect can you not put it through as a cost incurred by the business and simply not inform your insurance company?
or dont bother telling them its not a mod they can easily spot is it ?

The thought has crossed my mind but then I thought ahead about when I sell the car.
If I don't inform the buyers and they crash injuring themsleves there is a possibility that in the future either the insurance companies or VAG will have found a way to detect it and some poor injured person or wrecked car will not get the compensation they were due.
or am I just a big old softie...?

Yeah you are being a softie! Dont tell them! Just dont put any revo stickers on your car and they will be none the wiser ;)

I don't think that scenario will occur. The onus is on the owner to declare all known mods. If they never know they have been 'chipped' then they have been truly honest. If they suspect the car to be 'chipped' I suppose they could ask their insurer to check it out, and if still undetectable and ok'd by the assesors, no problem.
or tell the next buyer whats been done 2 l8 for your insurance then though :) so wont matter
course youve told us lot now so wer all know :) and im a broker so u r in trouble tee hee

I too am due to have my car revo'd next week. I have spoken to my insurance, and have a quote with and without the mod, £353 standard, £420 modified, with Direct Line.
Your not a "big softie", just honest like me,if anyone will be found out, it would be me....

If you do go for private insurance, make sure that you get insurance for business use (I assume that you use it for business trips not just travel to and from a place of business).
It makes quite a bit of difference in the cost, and guess what, I've heard stories where the insurance company wouldn't pay up on a SDP policy where the driver was on a business trip.
Who'd have though that an insurance would find any excuse not to pay up!!!

Stu, I'm potentially interested in REVO in the future.. don't actually get my new Leon Cupra til tomorrow.
Regarding declaring the mod... I'm also with Direct Line.. were there any terms and conditions associated with declaring it? i.e. how do you have to declare it?
Nice to know that they will handle it.
I know declaring mods is a personal choice.. as I've got older and hopefully wiser I now want everything 100% legit..
In the past I certainly have chipped a car and not declared it... and also written the same car off.. opps.. fortunately I did a good enough job to totally 'rework' the front left/side of the car that housed the ECU (nothing left)... Lesson learnt that day big Oak trees don't move when you hit them!
Regarding private insurance for business use... my direct line policy comes with it automatically as I remember... I asked about SDP only (don't need it for commuting or business) and was told I could remove it but it wouldn't alter the premium so I left it on.

Hi
It's a long story regarding insurance, and me but to cut it short, I have been with Direct Line for about 10 years with my other car, which I have recently sold. My Cupra was insured with Citroen Insurance following a deal on free insurance 3 years ago with my Saxo, which gave me full no claims if I stayed with them, or 3 years if I went elsewhere. As I have now sold my other car, have more "official" no claims discount, I am going to transfer my Cupra, for reasons of good service and good prices to Direct line.
My Insurance with Citroen Insurance is up the end of this month, so I rang Direct Line for a quote, both with and without modification. First, he gave me a quote to transfer the Cupra to my existing policy for the remainder of that policy, i.e. July 24th, of £15.00, my annual renewal would then be £353 from then. I then asked about modification, all they asked was what modification I was having, and by what percentage it increased the power, which I think works out to about 19%-20%, which is there limit for this quote, i.e. 10-20%, 20%- etc. I was given £423, which is not bad in my mind, I think that this also includes a slight increase in excess, but I have yet to confirm full details, but I think the main policy stays as before.Very nice about it too...more for them i suppose as well.
As Citroen Insurance is part of the same group as Direct Line, Royal Bank of Scotland, I had a similar quote from them as well.
Hope this helps
Stu

Well..my insurance quote from a Company who would cover me..
I tried Greenlight who advertise on this site..
Fully Comp .. apparently I only have 3 yrs no claims if I change now instead of waiting till expiry in August.
With Revo and three named drivers a £300 excess and full business use...
£695...:(
Remember I'm 43 and clean licenses for all three named drivers.
seems a bit stiff to me...:(
maybe its because 2 company directors are named drivers .. myself and my brother...
Parked on front drive off road.

confused.com, they sure were.
I entered my details for a quote on the Leon R and I got back 20 results only 2 results were for the R and were sky high. The rest ranged from ibizas to Leon TDis and 1.6s!!!!
If their service worked it may be worth using, bit it doesn't.
What about not telling your insurers about the mod and if anything happens claim you never used it except on track days.
Kinda like how it was with the speed detectors a few years back. You were allowed to have it but not to switch it on. :dunno:

Been discussed before. Onus is on you to declare or else your policy may be voidable. It is no excuse that you only used it on track. They are insuring the 'risk' and in their eyes whether you use it on the road or not is irrelevant as there is lways the possibility and temptation.

im about to renew with adrian flux and charged me bugger all for my mods (see Sig) didnt tell them about chip though, after all its encrypted, not physically/visually detectable, cannot be detected by vag software and can be reverted back to stock with SPS module. I got £980 with my mods and im 22 with 3years ncb which i think is an excellent Price!

Mark,
You could give me some money, say somewhere between £500 and £1000 as an early birthday present.
Then let me drive your car for a day or two.
I bring it back.
End of story.
Apart from the fact that your car "seems" a bit faster than before.
I can't say any more cos that will then make you aware of my cunning plan.
Blimney, I can come up with some far fetched s**te. ;)

Me: 35, full clean license, no claims in last 5 years, car parked on drive, used 50,000 business miles a year, full NCB (protected) - £633 to renew next month with Liverpool Victoria (on the 944 Cab). £350 excess IIRC.
I'll do the ring-around but TBH they have good customer service, include trackdays on some policies (not sure about mine) and do multicar, which is an issue when my Turbo is back together, so I'll probably stick with them. It's also a couple of hundred cheaper tham last year when I took it out on the Scooby and they don't ask for extra security.
