Just been reading up on this and it looks quite good.
If I go for somthing like this then the Cruise control option and three programs would be best.

1. Standard
2. 95RON chip program :)
3. 98RON (OPTIMAX) chip program :D

www.apreurope.com

I like the idea of having the option to switch between the different modes, especially when someone else drives my car or I take it in to the garage. Spoke to a dealer in midlands area he was very helpful, suggested also having the security and fault erasing utility in case any errors are logged (to save the dealers trying tp find a problem that doesnt exists!)

What are everyone's thoughts/views ???

You seen the competition on the Website. You can get that for free.

The competition was where I started looking into it. Not heard it mentioned before so though I would find out more as it seemed quite interesting.

Hmm, nice idea - switchable for bad weather too, to deal with traction probs.

You can buy the Vag Com tool from www.ross-tech.com that will allow you to erase error codes, throttle recalibration and much much more . $99 to you chief :D

The VAG-COM is a piece of software you load on a PC (laptop preferred) and then link it to the diagnostics socket on the Seat / VW etc using a adapter cable on the serial port.

The software will then emulate some of the features of the VW 5051 diagnostics computer allowing you to look at / change the settings on your ECU.

Have a look at the web site www.ross-tech.com as their is an on-line manual and a downloadable demo available. To try the demo you will need to get hold of the adapter cable, the site:

www.andywhittaker.com/ecu/obdii_hardware.htm

shows the adapter needed. Don't know what his service is like though.

If anyone already has this up and running I wouldn't mind taking a look.

Does anyone know where the connector is on the car ? I assume on your laptop you will use the COM port.

I have VAG-COM and have found it excellent. I have only used it to datalog and browse so far... But it can do things 5051's can't.
the Ibiza com port is by the fuses on the drivers side lower panel.

I have a question about its changing the dealer codes being blanked just by looking at them which I need to check with them as that is a bad thing.
its pretty cool but NOT a toy. You can f##k up lot of things.

What's the CEL? How's the car? Did your Boss give 'em a ring?
I'll be in touch about our HP LJ 6L over the Weekend.

Hi Toonman,

Check engine light !!,

Car not doing well at all, mpg dropped to 12 on the drive down to the garage, we are giving them one chance to fix it, otherwise the whole lot needs to be removed,

If it is possible to email me an example of what its doing then email to ian@mosser.co.uk, otherwise just email me with a more detailed description of hte fault and i will diagnose and tell you what to do to fix it by reply!!

I downloaded VAG-COM from http://www.ross-tech.com

You install this into your pc and log into your car with the lead (you can optionally buy- which I did) and then prove it can communicate with your ecu. You get a serial number which you then email to ROSS-TECH and they emai back an unlock serial number to allow full access to their software. There are good instructions on how to do this on their website.
Its an excellent piece of kit IMHO.

Bill
