13 July 2003 Oulton Park Race 5 & 6

The Oulton Park tickets will be with me tomorrow. So its time to take your orders.

We have again been allocated 75 free tickets by SEAT UK and have parking for 35 cars in a display area (SEAT Only).

Due to popular demand for the tickets they will be limited to 2 per Car (Unless the demand for Oulton Park is not in line with the other events)

So, I need the following information in an email to me lee@seatcupra.net.

Name
Forum Name
Contact Number
Car Make and Model
Registration Number
Address (With Postcode)
How many tickets you want

Tickets will be allocated as fairly as possible and will take into account your location, previous events attended and how much you kiss my backside.

My God, i never knew there was a race track so close to where i lived. I'm only about 20 miles away.

Few questions.

Now i know i was given tickets for the Silverstone event nd i realise i may not get tickets. So would i be able to buy tickets on the day?

Also if i don't get a free ticket, could i still park in the display area?

This is looking interesting....

Would a big night out in Manchester be on the cards..
I'm thinking of booking into a Holiday Inn/Travel Inn on Saturday night so I can sample Manchesters night life.....

Forgive me for being incorrect, but didn't people without "SCN Tickets" park in the SCN area at silverstone?

Could be a tough one for me to make it to, I'm in London on the Saturday night

Silverstone is unique in the fact its bloody huge and has acres of parking areas. So as the day led on, it was obvious the area assigned to us had plenty of space, so a few people managed to sneaked in.

At Croft we had a small strip of grass next to the infield road, and that was it.

Oulton has a bit of space, but nothing on the size of Silverstone, so dont expect the area to be big enough to allow lots of cars to park in the display area.

Simply the parameters of 35 cars are set by SEAT not us, so we abide by what is alloted to us.

Space is at a premium at Oulton, so i can imagine the rule of 35 car will be strict.

Remember going past on a 42 bus many of my days while living in Manc.. (42 bus to Fallowfield)

99% of the time the C and the S were rubbed out of Canal Street sign..

Was actually a very safe night out along the cobbled street, no '10 men' idiots just intent on fighting at the end of the night.

Why the getting of heads together?

IMO a random draw involving applicants who have had not received free tickets for past events would be a fairer way of allocating tickets.

If by the end of the season a member has not been allocated a free ticket, then by the method of "We'll Decide" the said member will probably ask himself "Why not me?" as it would not be by luck.

I did apply for free Croft tickets (for a laugh) but have not applied since, and will not for any other rounds due to this reasoning, as I would hate it for someone to decide for me whether I was a more deserving case than someone else.

With regard to this method of allocating free tickets (ie- We'll Decide), no thanks, I'll either buy them or get them by other means myself.

IMO the allocation method of "We'll Decide" is not democratic and could lead to bad feelings of members who are not successful in receiving free tickets.

It just smacks to me of a philosophy of "Toe the line and post the right things" and you're more likely to get your free tickets.

ZBOYD
27-06-2003, 00:02
Jeez you do talk shit sometimes Brian.

We have a compiled list of who got how many, and at which event, and on that basis we then look at the well over 100 applications so far, and then we can see whos had them, and who hasn't.

We need to get our heads together to make sure people do get a look in.

75 tickets, actually half that cause most people need at least 2, doesn't go very far on a forum of this size.

Im quite happy to pay myself into events, for the simple fact i'd like to see genuine members come.

But heres the knife twist away you idiot

mark sheerin
27-06-2003, 00:14
There's obviously more to deciding than who has already had a ticket as it would seem there isn't enough for people who haven't already had one anyway.
Other things like how far away they are may come into account..
If I don't get one I'll pay..no probs..I'll miss not getting into the special parking area but I'll still have a good day out.

ZBOYD
27-06-2003, 00:24
Indeed Mark, Croft wasn't planned that well, and we knew Silverstone would be oversubsribed, and it was, and on that basis Oulton park is far more popular than we thought too obviously becuase so many enjoyed Silverstone and Croft.

We knew there would never be enough to fill demand, but we're trying to be as fair as possible.

We sent out tickets and some didnt even turn up, one or two did have genuine reasons for not doing so, but now thats unfair in my eyes when some people could of got the benefit.

Just gets me wound up and annoyed that one particular person, is in some permanent drunken stooper, trying in vain to find some way in which to drag down the people who work hard at this website and forum.

Well Brian it wont work. And we frankly couldn't care less.

Brian27
27-06-2003, 00:24
Just the sort of reaction I was expecting.

It is my opinion and therefore I felt free in my posting it.

If this makes me an idiot in your eyes, then so be it, it's an open forum.

However, I still don't like the "We'll Decide" method.

27-06-2003, 00:29

Correction on spelling.....stouper is the correct spelling.

I find it sad that you stoop so low as to question my lifestyle and credibility on here.

:(

Saul

I do believe we are covering old ground here, again.

Bottom line, lee keeps a record (an excel spreadsheet to be precise) of every person who has had tickets and how many they received for the previous events.

We then filter thro the emailed enquiries and tally them up to the spreadsheet, and in what we believe is the fairest way, we offer them to people who have either:

a) not visited an event before
b) been geographically challenged (those living in kent not fancying the drive to croft for instance)

This is, we believe the fairest way in which to conduct this distribution. There will always be some people who will not receive ticket, for this we cannot legislate, 100 does not go into 75.

If you dont like it, then you dont like it. But please dont insinuate that we are not fair in this, we are as fair as we can be. We asked SEAT for more tickets, we couldnt get them and this is where we stand.

We do not, and have not, had a policy of "people toeing the line"

Simple as really.

m0rk
27-06-2003, 08:23
where the hell did that all come from?

Clearly Brian - you sometimes have issues - it would be more sensible to drop an email to lee in future (as per the rules) than have a personal crusade against us. (please)

Cheers

Yep well maybe you can see then questioning my integrity, and as Saul has said insinuating that we are unfair, will get the kind of reaction you got.

Quite simply its sour grapes, just looking at a way to slur us, for doing nothing more than being fans of our cars and enthusiastic enough to run a leading forum and website community.

I don't get paid, i do it cause i enjoy my car and enjoy getting together with like minded people.

Its a hobby and somepeople here seem to think its a business that you've paid into and we are in some way accountable to you, if you got a problem with the way things are run, then maybe try emailing me rather than coming in here and making insinuations against us.

Everything i and the other members of this site work for in our spare time, is to improve this site and this was rewarded this year, and we hope its the start of more good things to come.

Were not asking for anything in return, were just happy the majority enjoy it and appreciate it for what it is.

A site dedicated to enjoying our SEAT cars.

I have already had one ticket so I'm not too hopeful of getting another...

I would however if I have to pay still like to park with the rest of the cupras...
Do you think you could have a list of reg no's made up for that scenario Lee?
Do you think that seatcupra.net could have a special parking place for all even ones who pay themselves in?

Depends on space, if we had the space we got at Silverstone, then i dont see the problem, with paying members getting to park with us.

Oulton is mainly in-field parking, and was nearly all grass, except for the paddock areas, though granted ive not been for a couple of years, and someone mentioned to me the other day Oulton have done some modernising, and that a car park area had been built.

Im sure Lee will mention it, and we'll see where that leads.

If the weekend isnt to busy you maybe able to park where you want in the grass infield. But if its busy i would think they will be telling you where to park.

So best bet would be all to meet before hand and convoy in. Then you at least have a chance of being together.

Arrive early is also a good way to get best parking arrangements.

Oulton isnt as huge a place as Silverstone, so we'll all get together again and chat no doubt.

Whooooh lets not get into a who's right and wrong issue here. The tickets i'm sure are dealt fairly, and as it's been mentioned before some don't even turn up when they have them!

Lets face it it's nice to get a ticket, especially as has been pointed out, if you have to travel a longway as it does a small part to offset the cost of fuel.

But it's not everything. Be happy we are getting some at all and have the chance to all meet up for a motorsport oriented social whether we get a free ticket or not.
