I have a 99 toledo V5 which had until a while back been used to daily long fast trips up and down the M-ways - I now have new job and it sits outside for weeks on end. Last time i drove it, it started OK from cold and would rev ok standing still but the problem is when I pulled away it nearly stalled and I had to slip the clutch and rev the engine pretty high to get the car to pull up the road. The problem seems to go away when the engine is warm except I have noticed a real flat spot of power around 4000rpm in any gear when overtaking and I could really do with a boost not a brake on progress.

Any ideas? can anyone suggest what's wrong? I am not mechanically minded so assume I'm a bit thick in that department.

Change your coolant temperature sensor. Since is not working correctly is making the engine running reach.

Same problem happend to my wife Skoda 1.6i and it was the Coolant temperature sensor.
