What is the general consensus about chopping up the original parcel shelf for some 6x9's vs buying/making a stealth shelf for complete audio deadening?
Does the original shelf support the 6x9ers ok or was there any need for some mdf support?
Any thoughts greatly appreciated:p

If you cut the shelf attach mdf underneath mount the speakers in the mdf and recarpet covering the holes in the top it is a stealth shelf anyway... saves some cash!;)

Don't just slap them in the shelf they don't sound as good as they could.
Either make a shelf from MDF or as I've done for a few people.
Cut the holes in the shelf, cut 12mm MDF to go under the shelf again with the 6x9 holes. Carpet the MDF before putting screws in from the top of the shelf to hold them on. THen fix some mesh over the holes in the shelf and re carpet the whole shelf in black acoustic carpet. Then you have a completely stock looking shelf and you can screw the speakers to the bottom out of site, and they sound better.
