I have an NTL email account that attracts 50+ spam emails per day (i kid thee not). This took ages to download on a modem (not to mention the risky material therein) so i tried a program called "Mailwasher" - which downloads just the mail headers so you can "try before you buy" if you like.
It also automatically marks things which is thinks are spam, and will 'bounce' the email back to the sender (so they think your email address is invalid). Nice.
There's a 'free' version which checks just one account - give it a go :)
