Hi,

I have a Seat Ibiza Cupra (Dec 2000) with the 1.8T engine. My mate has just picked up a Mk4 Golf Gti also with the 1.8T engine. Does anyone know what differences there are in these engines (if any).

My mates turbo is so much more spinny/whistly/audible! We know we share pretty much the same performance after many a good hack :D

As you look at the engines, you can see some differences at the back. Wont try to guess as to what they are as I dont know!

Does the Mk4 have a bigger turbo?

Also, the cars look very similar in length when parked side by side, but the Golf is so much bigger inside! The boot is huge compared to the Ibiza and there is tons more room inside. Drove his Golf yesterday as well and am gutted to say I'm quite jealous! Its a really nice car and 'sits' much firmer on the road than my Ibiza....

The difference is all in the engine codes, there are approx. 10 different 1.8T's.
Some codes are; AWW,AWP,AUQ,AMK,BAM,AYP etc ,etc .
All these engine's have something different.

The mk3 Ibiza is not entirely a Polo chassis but runs many Golf2 front parts. It is however older than the Golf4 platform (so you might assume not as good).

HI

The ibiza is very much a bitza - bitza this, bitza that

Rear axle is Mk4 polo but with rear disks like Mk2 golf. Not sure which golf are rear calipers - different before and after 1988 I think, not sure which ours are. Front end is Mk3 golf subframe with Mk3 golf wishbones but with Mk2 golf hubs/uprights and wheelbearings. Front disks are 256 or 280mm and Mk2 golf derived - either 16V or G60 depending on size. My car has rod change gearbox which was Mk2 golf 16V but also fitted to Mk3 8V and Ibiza 8V. Engine and box mounts are essentially Mk3 golf. Mk3 golf front shocks will fit fine but these are same as Mk4 polo but different spring rates. Rear shocks must be Mk4 polo - golf2 or 3 are too long. Clutch's are variable - pedro special. Steering rack ?

Its not easy having an ibiza - a case of take off the part and go to german and swedish with it and ask for one of them please.

Cheers

Rob
