OK need some advice here. Its coming up to MOT time and ive got a '97 8v Cupra with full supersprint system and cat replacement. Getting a little bit worried about it failing the emissions test. Is this likely? Its been AMD'd and just had a full service if that makes any difference. Am i gonna have to fork out for a new cat? Reason i got the replacement was cold my old one died :(
Help please!!!!!!!

sparky, the mot regulations state clearly im afraid that if the car was roiginally fitted with a cat then a cat it must have for mot time, that is not to say that it must be the same typw, it could be a shortened one or a sports cat, as long as you can mangle some decent emission figures out of it!!
You'll just have to introduce the MOT examiner to your good friend "mr £20" :D

Think they owe me a favour cos they caused me a lot of grief about a year ago when they fitted my suspension. Took it to RPM in the end to get set up properly! Read so many conflictiong things about cats recently. Found this site though www.motuk.co.uk whics was quite good and had all details and test etc. Just says about emissions and not about the physical cat. Wonder if i poke the guy in the eyes so he cant see then swear theres a cat he might take my word! :D

Was thinking of doing that mate but can never seem to get a reply from him. DOnt want to stress him out if i can help it. Plus going there gets expensive! :) kind of a whole, well while its there it would be rude not to mod it some more! and i think that would result in the missus removing me jewels if you catch my drift! :(
thats what i am doing Mark it would be extremly rude of me not to get anything done to it while it was there so gave him another long list to get cracking on.

its ok for you lot over there, over here in northern ireland, theres specific mot centres run by the department of the environment, you drive the car in , and they basically take over now!! most of them dont even say hello , so Mr. monkey wll not even get noticed if you wave it in his face, they pull and tug at everything under the car to mak sure its safe, in my view they are a bit too strict on the 3 year then mot time rule, i reckon 4 years would still be ok, you dont see too many cars ready for the wreckers yard at that age.

Cheers mate. Now what subtle mods could i do that the missus wont notice? hmmmmm;)
a colour change most women wouldn't notice that
I think that you should fine a VERY VERY friendly MOT Test Station....I have one in Colchester!
Si
'a colour change most women wouldn't notice that'
you must be joking! - that's the only thing women notice about a car :p

damn right scotty, my missus knows a fair bit about scoobies and evo 6's etc, but there was a time when she knew nothing, like when she saw a mate of mine in a shiney red car, when pushed on the make, she let fly " i wasnt f%ckin looking, OK?!"
Having worked in an MOT test station for about 2 and a half years, 'fiddling' the emmissions test will be difficult.
cars registered after 1992 or there abouts must be fitted with a catalitic convertor and must not have maximum amount of 0.5% Co and hydrocarbons at some other percentage at normal and fast idle engine speeds. should the car pass the the test, the data from the emmisions computer must acompany their copy of the Mot pass certificate when it is sent to the ministry of transport for administration(its the same for diesels after a certain date). forgeing the emmisions data is a criminal offence and the test station will be put out of business.
my advice is to put the cat back on and or adjust the fueling or what ever
