My house mates have recently had trouble with our next door neighbour keying their cars. i am currently at home with a recently purchased cupra ibiza, which is my pride and joy. when i go back to uni in september i want to be assured when i m tucked up in bed no scum will so much as breathe on it...

i've got around £4-500 to spend and would ideally want some sort of shock/motion sensor i.e when car is approached alarm will sound but go off once person (or cat for that matter) has retreated so im not up and down in my boxers every five minutes...

any feedback would be great

Clifford Concept alarm with dual zone microwave sensor and glass break sensor. That will do the trick.

Don't want to seem too negative, but I always wince when I read about aftermarket alarms.

Made the mistake a few years ago of having the garage where I bought a car fit a fairly high spec GT Auto alarm (over £400), and it was absolutely nothing but trouble.

Kept blowing a fuse and imobilising the car completely. After about a year of going back to the garage had to have the whole thing ripped out at the place which I use now for ICE etc (after doing a proper job of researching and finding a decent dealer that didn't employee YTS trainees:D).

Basically the whole original install was a complete botch job. They hadn't properly run the wires and the alarm loom had chafed and shorted on part of the bulkhead.

Don't get me wrong - I'm sure that when properly installed an aftermarket alarm is well worth having. Just make sure you get it done properly at a reputable dealer, especially if you're spending £500 on it.

That's part of the reason that I always recommend Clifford alarms. The installers are generally better since Directed try to restrict who they sell them too. OK so there are bad installers out there, so go on recommendations of who is good in your area, and go and ask them loads of questions before hand. Oh and don't just go for the cheapest, it might be false ecconemy...

Oh and I would NEVER get a garage to install an alarm for me. I ALWAYS go to a good ICE/Security specialist.
