View Full Version : first run!
took the TTed ibiza for its first run. making loads of power from 4500 to 6000 revs. what direction do i move the wastegate in to make power lower down? also why would it be limiting at 6000revs instead of the old 7000? and finally i only have 3/5 gear in spite of changing the linkage from front to back. does anyone know the proceedure for setting the linkage on a mk3?and how do i adjust it ?

the limited revs must surely be the ecu.
was the gearbox opened at all? does it refuse 1 and 2 completely, or does it feel like they just arnt there, ie no resistance for it to engage hat normally would be the gear?
wastegate...pfft no idea.
I can only comment on my own experience with my ibiza cupra 1.8t 20v. The k03 turbo needs the boost spreading across the board as best as possible. I can alter the wastegate and have a higher boost spike but it holds less boost higher up. If the car spikes at 21/22psi it will only have 8psi by 5500rpm. If the car spikes at 18psi then at 5500rpm it will still have 12psi. My wastegate has been set so the car now spikes at 18psi its more smooth and less jumpy.
redman,
turn the wastegate screws AWAY from actuator and you will lower overall boost (a bit) and it will make the turbo spool up faster/earlier too.
@sim, could it be overboosting @ 6000revs? whats the symptoms , is it like the limiter or more like limp mode?
ps thanks guys, ive a rolling road booked for saturday, so need help!!!!

which RR are you going to conrad? triple 7 or mcviclkers?
No idea about the 6k limiting. When i'm overboosting it just simply releases boost (closes throttle plate/opens DV), but it does not limit revs. Try to lower boost, maybe it helps. Do you have a boost gauge installed BTW?
@sim, on my to do list, have it sitting here, think ill need it sooner rather than later.
@brendy, the vage boys have hired the dublin for the day( the revo one with the 5 hour trials!!!!)
can you get the gears manually
ie
by hand on the box ?
spent today messing with the linkage to try to get all gears, am no better off either!however with this much power i knew the clutch was eventually going to be marginal. i had hoped to get to next winter and install lsd/heavier clutch/lightened flywheel. after all the 3rd gear starting today the clutch is stinking! opinions needed should i just change it now and have done with it? also filled her with 97 ron and messed with the wastegate, pulling much stronger but from 5k now instead of 41/2. i moved it in the direction you told me to, thought id get power lower???
really have to get this boost guage installed. with only having third gear, i cant tell how shes going as by 5k revs, im doing silly speeds without the car tracked, etc.
setting the screws closer to the actuator will yield higher peak boost, but slower spool up. you are opening the wastegate but tightening the spring at the same time. it will require more time to spool up (because wastegate will be defaultly opened a bit this way), but it will not be able to open that much (hence higher boost).
setting the screws away from the actuator will yield lower peak boost, but faster spool up, since you are closing wastegate (and loosening spring).
There is a point from where you should not loosen the wastegate more further, since it will just make your car poo (low boost).
mine is almost ready, still waiting to get proper software. I adjusted little bit boost, now running it with peak 1.7bar,holds 1.2bar to redline. it has much more power than old k04-001. pretty nice :) cant wait to get proper software!
clutch holds ok, I have autotech stage2 clutch
(vr6 228mm with lightened flywheel)
runs 3.7bar fuel pressure, too rich at the moment.
which turbo (if not k04-01)?
kkk04-020 from audi s3/tt 225hp

what had to be chopped to fit the turbo? as the kkk04-01 is bolt on?
its the k04 023 same as mine sim.i made it to the rollers today, made 176bhp at the wheels at 27 degrees ambient. this isnt great but there was a list of faults and he reckons the throttle wasnt fully opened.the front prob wasnt operational and major overboost being the main ones.also the heat is far in excess of the 180 spec, you cant place your hand on the inlet. fmic and clutch are priorities
K04-023? Really?! I could get one for myself too.
Are the water/oil lines compatible?
Is the manifold compatible?
What i noticed (investigating the pictures) the compressor outlet would point down and not up, is that correct?
Also the turbine outlet (to downpipe) would point sideways and not down. Correct?
This one?

sim, nothing fits, safer and cheaper with the jabba option IMO.the exhaust is as you say sideways but the outlet lines up with our own stainless pipe.

jabba option, Do you mean K04???? Any details as i have had no response from them and am looking into the K04 route but theres not much info about.
any help appreciated
Thanks
Mike
ya gotta start somewhere :D
only gettin 3rd mmmmmmm
@flapper i changed a couple of bits and im now getting 3/4/5 . i altered the linkage when i got there so he could get 1/2 instead so he could do the power run in second. someone on the s.e. site has the procedure for setting the linkage and is faxing it through.
@sim/shock-Xe there are more than two types of k04. the one as fitted to the yellow intercooled beezer at trax last year is the direct bolt on one. nothing changes . it bolts to original downpipe, oil lines etc, even the tip will do as long as you have the 150/156 version.this was NEVER fitted to a production vehicle. available on vortex for 800 quid.
the other is the one fitted to transverse 210/225 models and nothing is stock. oil lines etc need changed and unless you get everything of a tt/s3 it will work out very expensive. the downpipe on the originals cars is two pipes running into two cats. i mage a downpipe, that in itself was a months work given the space constrictions at the back of our engines.
