View Full Version : Another Wheel/Tire question
My Cupra 4 17" wheels have just come in for my Toledo 150.:D
Have been checking around for the right tire ???
I've got it down to 2 or 3 :
Michelin Pilot Sport
Bridgestone S 03
Pirelli P -7000
Need opinions!!!!
What about size??? 205/50-17 or 225/45-17????
Winters just around the corner, which in Portugal means rain (like every dam day). Worried that the 225 would aqua plane much more (I do mostly highway driving) In the dry the 205/55-16 which the car came with just can't seem to handle all that torque (Bridgestone Turenza EA-30). Maybe a different 205, like one of the above 3, would be able to handle the torque better??
Opinions would definitely be appreciated. Thanks!!
Well i run 225 50 r16's Bridgestone potenza S-03 PP's and i dont recommend them for the winter!!,
The width makes them aquaplane quite a bit more easily, but the extra rubber is very good for the summer,
I dont like the S-03's i am running, they dont suit the Leon's characteristics, get S-02 PP's if you can, if not try some Goodyear F1's, people have said a lot of good things about those on here before!
I've heard both good and bad things about the S03 as well as the Goodyear F1 tire.
The S02 PP I used on my beeza and they were great, except for the wear rate (Ouch!!). A couple of the guys I know don't like the F1 due to the road noise they produce.
It is pretty strange how some tires work well on some cars but not others. Is it weight differences?
I'd like to try the Pirrelli tire again (even though I didn't like them on the beeza they might work well on the Toledo).??

you get a lot of road noise from a Goodyear F1 do ya? More than from the P-Zero's on the beeza...?? surely not..
Mine are the noisest things I have ever heard on a rough motorway.. (all like that in yorkshire)..
They are great in the summer.. good traction.. in the wet... gash.. slip and slide all over..
I watched a program the other night on some random Sky channel about the Lambo Diablo.. and the P-Zero that they use on it.. apparently they reckon it is the closest thing to the Pirelli Racing tyre of their range... They described the sections of the tyre (3 of them) catering for dry and wet conditions and for traction.. man what a load of shit.. I would suggest they make the bit for wet handling a lot wider.. lol
I don't have to change mine yet.. but when I do I will possibly look @ the Goodyears.. and at that point might actually change my Alloys from the standard ones..
I don't know? My beeza came with 185/55-15 P6000.
Road noise close to zero,
Handling and Grip Dry/Wet less than that (<0).
The noise from the F1 was coments from a couple of friends with Mercs. Never tried the P-Zeros so I can't compare.
Worst noise tire I ever had was the Yokos A-520, sound like a train :)
The pirelli's I was thinking about were the P7000.

I have P7000's on my Golf.
Nice and sticky, but due to that, tyre wear is quite fast. Need to replace the front two already and I've only had the tyres for about 6 months and 8,000 miles.
Did I mention I rely on the grip quite a lot due to my driving nature;)
Cheers,
Chris.
Ps. Not really aware of road noise, music drowns that out!

I drive in the neighborhood of 46000 miles a year (74000km/yr avg) so 8000 miles on a set of tires is to short a lifespan for me. Since I do mostly highway, even the set of S02PP on my old beeza lasted 42000KM which is about 7 months for me (rotated every 10000km).
