View Full Version : MOTOGP - Donnington
Didn't comment on the last one, but who saw this?
I noticed that Rossi passed under yellow and that the commentators did not notice it (although they mentioned Bayliss backing off who was a bit further back).
Biaggi 'cracked' again under pressure and Capirossi lost touch after Melandri fell off and could never quite get back.
Gibernau is trying to get himelf in the mindset that he is as good as Rossi and should be challenging them more and for race wins not happy to accept podiums only. Judging by his performance he is still not there.
Melandri's going to have a tough time mentally to get to where he wants to be after a big crash at the opener and going down again.
Also watched Laguna Seca - I love that track!
Did you see Frankie's highside at the start of the 2nd race?
OUCH!
I missed Frankie's off but saw some demon overtaking manouevres going through the corkscrew - that takes some mega guts. I saw one Italian (name escapes me) in line up for a move at the top of the corkscrew complex but get it all wrong before it even started. He stood the bike up, knowing he had to, and narrowly avoided goinf head on into the wall! If he's lost it into there his bike would have hit the wall but he would probably have gone through the wire fence above.
I saw Chris Burns come off and Melandri was lucky not to get run over or for his bike to take out a few others!
The 250 and 125 races were good as well but you can tell there's still too many hot heads in those series. If they all came up then MOTOGP would be carnage!
I missed the start of the first race at Laguna...what happened I heard something about it having to be restarted again?
They always seem to have problems at the start there...I remember a few years back at a WSBK race where there was carnage at the start....seem to remember Slighty taking a big hit...
!!!!NEWSFLASH!!!!
I watched the later one, and on Eurosport News straight afterwards, they said that Rossi had been awarded a ten second penalty for passing under yellow, which relegated him to third. Honda not appealing it (gentlemen that they are!)
GP class is now unbeleivable racing... what was it? 1 Second separating 1 to 15? Something like that...
230 BHP and 145 KGS...
I also remember something very similar a few years back at the start of Leguna Seca...
Frankie's looked like it hurt, but did you see Oliver Jacque's highside?
Watched the MotoGP and yep, Biaggi lost his bottle. Mid you, I suspect Rossi would have been able to take him anyway, with the harder rear tyre, if it came to it towards the end of the race I'm sure Rossi's would have held out longer!!
Sete is a weird one for me. Never heard the guy speak or seen a picture of him, but took a dislike to him for some obscure reason, but after hearing his interview yesterday, I like him!!
Didn't see the WSB's, but do like the corkscrew at Laguna Seca. Anyone who tips it into there on a 1000cc machine whilst not overtaking, deserves a medal, never mind when racing hard!!

Bo**ocks, I didnlt hear that. Makes the Championship a lot more interesting though!!
I missed the start at Laguna Seca too :o I did see Olivier Jacque come off and he looked hurt. He collpased on the side of the track nut they reckon he was 'only winded'. He must have jumped 3-4 feet above the bike and that was bucking up in the air!
Biaggi must be very frustrated because Rossi always wins out!
ps the commentary for Laguna was cr*p!
pps Rossi will still win. He is clearly better and with a better package than the next best (whoever you consdier that to be).

Laguna commentary is always lacking, I think it's the camera footage lots of low angle "Jeez pa, look how fast them i-tallians is going" stuff instead of anything that shows the real racing...
Couldn't agrue more - Rossi is a god. Seventh to second in two laps then merrily followed Max around (Max was on a softer rear tyre) until he did Max's head in (Max later claimed to hit a false neutral at the Foggy hairpin - same bike as Rossi, mate). Then he just fecked off (well...)
I just wish he'd stop picking his arse on the grid.
Potentially I think Marco Melandri could be the next real challenger although he has had an awful start and might be feeling a bit dejected. If he had busrt on to MOTOGP and bagged a few podiums, upset a few riders by beating them then his confidence would be so high.
Pedrosa or (Pedroso?) in the 125s is another one to watch (although I don't follow that series too much) - he's only 17 too.
I think they thould let Poggi loose on a moto GP bike...that guy is good!!
Leading the championship in his rookie year in 250's

He is but like all the others around him, they don't half like taking their chances. They regulalry take each other out and get the 'redmist'.
It definitley makes it exciting and I'm sure they'll stop it when it starts to hurt!
When did the Rossi yellow-flag incident happen?
Was doing the ironing, so every time I watched a bit of the race I ironed my fingers
Pretty close to the start....start of lap two according to reports
second lap I think when Ukawa when down after running into the back of somebody (?)
TBH I don't knowhow he missed it cos there were 2 yellow flags waving. They might have been obscured by him riding alongside another rider but that's a bit lame. And, his 'overtake' was so easy he must have known something was up?
I agree, I think Melandri could be the next decent challenger!!
Apparently Honda have a V6 in the wings if anyone gets to close to them!!
Whatever happened to Leon Haslam in the 125's?

I was actually at Donington watching the racing.
OMG! They sound fanastic! The Ducatis sound like a mad growling dog.
I was stood on the infield watcing them come down Starkeys straight, under the Dunlop bridge, into the Foggy Esses & up towards the Melbourne loop. You could see the front runners getting the back wheel up in the air under braking. Amazing bike control.
I saw Melandri bin it at the Esses & Biaggi make his mistake which let Rossi thru into the lead. I didn't know about Rossi's overtaking error until I got back home last night.
Getting out of the circuit was a different matter. It was a complete nightmare. Sometimes I wish I had a bike.
Must have been a good day though. The 125 and 250 races were very good too.
TBH I don't know why I still bother to watch F1 when it is nowhere near as exciting for me.
Melandri needs to settle in a bit but as for entertainment and style I think Bayliss and Edwards can man-handle, slide and chuck the bike better than the rest of the pack (although Capirossi gave it some in the last couple of races but I think that's more to do with the chassis not being able to handle the power).
Biaggi: super-smooth, or so they say, but not super cool on track. Not agressive enough for me to really grab a race by the scruff of the neck and attack like a maniac. Barros can do it but he's not too good this year.
Bayliss: a bit of a nutter. I think he's still sussing out how the others like to ride. Next year he'll be right in the mix and p'ing ppl off with his lairy aggression.

well said... you guys should put in a bit of support of the british superbikes... not a popular I'm sorry to say...
something like 80k people at donny on sunday... about 20k if your lucky at the BSB rounds...
I've stopped watching F1 a long time ago. MotoGP & Superbikes do it for me.
The atmosphere was fanastic yesterday. Something like 70,000 people there at the circuit.
125s & 250s were good to watch (of what I saw of them). But the MotoGP is amazing to watch - much more entertaining than F1.
I believe the WSBK is going to be shown later tonight on BBC2, so think I'll be taping that.

If that's a re-run of Laguna Seca watch it!
One of the local American wildcards goes through overtaking through the corkscrew like a man possessed. Normally World Superbikes is a bit processional and not as competitive as MOTOGP. It was certainly better last year when Edwrads and Bayliss were still there.
