do you know the reason why ?

Hi mate no they was not told but they think it's prob due to the current climate for the car:shrug:

SEAT are handling the ibiza cupra situation badly. No magazine has even come near one yet even though it was revealed so long ago. Hopefully because of the delay thay can make the car look better and more like the concept.

Yea fingers x a he did say the uk spec ones will come with the 4 pot brakes as all pics so far are of the european version which are an option out there, we see
Did take the 500 Abarth for test drive today and must admit it was superb!! So not sure I can wait that long:whistle:

Current market conditions for car manufacturers are very tough, as a result many factories including SEAT's have been reducing production or making preparations to do so. This maybe one of the reasons why this new car has been delayed.

That and the fact hot hatch petrol cars are seemingly unpopular in the market because of the current financial downturn they are simply not selling in volumes.

They are likely focusing production on other vehicles they believe will bring greater profits during this financial crisis. Delaying the Cupra until September may allow for some recovery in the market.

Alternatively it could be just delayed for technical reasons.

This is of course my own theory based on the information that is in the public doman.

you want to trade your FR for a 500 abarth :ban:

500 abarth is nice but a step down from a FR

stu38

Yea prob right zboyd just a pain as wonted to trade by then, must say though poverty it was very impressive drive firm but not to severe and build looked very good, on the ride front that my biggest worry with the new cupra, hope it won't be like the m4 cupra I had that was murder way to firm I thought

not in the uk till sept. SEAT having issues apparently. Dealer reckons left handers will be out quite a while before the right handers.

Blimey, does this mean that my post No. 7 in the linked thread was correct?

http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=202963

That's a first for me. I think car manufacturers will be concentrating on cheap bread and butter models which they have more chance of shifting the current impoverished climate.

Been watching this with some interest. Heard a rumour a near 200bhp version special edition may be launched but then heard nothing since. Think it was called the Assetto Corse, but was due to be made in VERY limited numbers <500.

Used to own a Lupo GTi which was great but slightly power starved (for those of us running off it's slightly breathless NA lump - not like Badger5's 1.8T version). THought this may capture the essence of the old Lupo but with a big dollop of required torque, and a slightly wider / longer wheelbase to remove some of the skittish handling tendencies.

And is there still no word of a FR version?

Surely they'd sell more cars if the engine range was better. If they made a 1.4 TSI 125PS Sport, i'd probably buy one when in the summer. But at the moment I'm swayed toward a 1.4 Leon Sport

Sounds great, my mate has anew Ibiza as his company car (works for Bentley) and it's really, really good.

Shame the wait is being extended, but I'm sure it'll be worth it.

If the Cupra was to appear in April, then I would of expected some kind or press release. Nothing as yet, but I would expect some word of it very soon if an April / Spring launch were the case.

SEAT won't just release a new model like the Cupra with no-fanfare.

Has anyone had any experience of purchasing a left-hand drive vehicle from a UK dealer? Should this be more or less expensive than a RHD?

Probably work out around the same due to unfavourable exchange rates. Left hookers will also depreciate more.

I went into my local dealer today to ask about the new Cupra and was told it would definitely be out in September. They have now got the leaflets in stock though which is basically an OTT sales pitch stating how the new car is 'sex on wheels'.
Cheesy phrases such as:-
"If power is what you want, it's time to feast",
"the special trapezoidal-exit exhaust makes the most of the engine's 180ps growl", or
"appreciate the CUPRA sport seats you're so comfortably pinned against".
The leaflet folds out into a little poster of the car in a bullring and gives mpg and emission figures.

Looks very smart though!

At the moment I am leasing a brand new Golf TDI in Germany and it appears that the new Ibiza Cupra will be borrowing a lot of the same technology e.g. the aerial has disappeared completely from the roof (how fantastic is that?[B)]); the windscreen wipers detect if they need to do some work; driving lights (somewhere in between headlamps and sidelights) come on even when you've got them switched off (how weird is that?:headhurt:); and the parking sensors tell you if someone is pushing a shopping trolley. All we are waiting for now is the ecstasy and glowstick dispenser specifications that were elluded to in Paris:)

i would start the debate about it looking like the bocanegra concept to get more interest, but really all it needs is the centre of the bumper made black and you are more or less there

I heard from my dealer today that it goes into production in July, for September deliveries - as stated above.

I have read though that the whole VW group are looking to reduce their car's costs - to be more competitive in these hard times. Ironic then that the new Golf GTI is rumoured to start at £22k, £2k more than the Mk5.

As much as i'd like to say the Cupra is going to be a great car, at £17k it'll be overpriced, and it's got tough competition i reckon, with the Corsa VXR and Clio 197/200s/Cups.

Also, if the Fiesta Zetec S reviews are anything to go back, the new Fiesta ST is going to be the weapon of choice in that sector (if a tad common!).

I kinda like the Ibiza's exclusivity and got very excited when i passed one the other day, much to the wife's amusement.

I'm saving my pennies and pounds for a Cupra, however if its a small engine I'm not going to be interested. After driving a 1.4TSI and a 1.9TDI I prefer the stock TDI over a remapped and worked on 1.4 any day.

Trumpetman21
31-03-2009, 09:01
£17K is FAR too much - the new Clio 200 will be around that figure (perhaps £1K less) & in all honesty would probably have the beating of it too. I would say £15K tops, £14K a good buy but they seem determined to destroy the success of the MkIV Cupra....sad....

the car looks great with all the toys you could hope for but i am really disappointed with the performance. I dont like the almost tree hugger ethos which all the car manufactures are taking at the minute. If people are looking at buying a cupra, they want peformance. 7.5 0-60 time just does not cut it. The new FR is much more like with a 150ps engine its still only .2 slower and about £3k cheaper? how can this be. I would expect the cupra to be more torquie but surely it cant compete with the like of the Corsa VXR with those sort of stats?? and £16k??

Trumpetman21
20-05-2009, 11:10
Too much really innit?

You can get a 155bhp 1.4 MiTo for £14500 and £500 extra will see it dealer mapped to 180bhp.

Clio 200 offers 200bhp for around the £16K mark.
