Ok i fancy fitting a new head unit in my Cupra but i have some questions.
1)I think i require a facia adaptor, Aerial adaptor and a wiring harness adaptor is this right ?
2)If so is the facia adaptor the same as the one for a Audi A3 (the only one i can find online, which has a spacer each side) ?
3)How easy is it to remove the old unit and fit the new one ?
4)Will i still be able to switch the HU on without the ignition on as i can at the moment ?
Any help appreciated as i`ve never changed a HU before.
Ok here goes:
1&2) You will need a fascia adapter, Autoleads make one and it is labelled for Leon/Toledo so i'm not sure if its the same as the A3, any car audio shop will be able to get the autoleads one, cost around £10
Aerial adapter will come with your new HU
No wiring harness adapter is needed other than DIN->Mini DIN that a lot of HU's use but that adapter will come with your new HU.
3) You need a tool to get the Aura unit out, your dealer will pop it out for you (or any car audio shop).
Fitting a new unit is dead easy, put the cage in, bend the fitting prongs to fit, connect wires, insert HU, enjoy!
4) Not sure on this one, might depend on the unit you get. My Sony one doesn't allow this, although it still has power to open/close the motorised face and eject discs, so there is power there, depends on how the HU uses I guess.
Don't be scared, do it! The aura unit is utter cr*p IMO, you won't regret it! There's plenty here who will help you if you get stuck:)

As for the stereo working regardless of the key being in the ignition, thats a pretty painless operation! Either u will need to connect the the accesory live wire to the memory live wire to give it a permanent live status (pls note u will have no more control via the key now). Or......
If the unit u purchase does not have a power harness for connection as is just ISO direct connection to the unit then there will most likely be a jumper bar which after reading the instruction manual will tell u which position to connect it in.
P.S. Not all new units sold come with the aerial adaptor, just ask ur supplier just in case!!

I'm no expert in ICE, but I've been in a few cars and I've been really impressed with the Aura HU and autochanger setup. Sounds good to my ears for a standard fit jobbie.
Good luck with your replacement tho'

OK what you need is...
Autoleads FP-18-00 It's the Toledo adapter but is the one you need... You also need an Areil booster as well or the reception will be comlete rubbish. Wiring harness adapter isn't really needed.
If you don't want to buy the tool to remove the HU, then just use an old Credit Card or similar cut into long slot size bits. That works just as well...
To be able to use the HU without the key in you will need to connect both the +12 and ignition cables from the new HU into the powered feed straight from the battery. The manual that comes with the stereo will tell you how to do this. The only problem with doing that is that you can accidently leave the stereo on then and drain the battery...

I thought the Leon had an aerial amplifier built in somewhere:confused: I've never used a booster and reception has always been A1

Since you've got a Sony Chris it's probably got a booster built in to make up for the fact that the rest of it is ***** :D lol
You normally do need one although my old alpine used to work ok without one... I'd advise getting one to anyone fitting a HU so you can throw one in at the same time...

Strange, I thought it was a really good unit - made by Blaupunct and loads of peeps on here rate it.

DU02 i noticed a while ago you said you had got a single CD version of the std Aura HU that you don`t use, Do you still have it ? If so how much would you let it go for ?
As the main reason i want to change mine is that i don`t own a single cassette !!
And as has been mention above i find the sound quality on the std unit quite good.

You're right i did mention that I had a single CD Aura somewhere, but unfortunately I can't find it at the mo:redface:
I've looked everywhere for the damn thing, I can't remember where I put it. I'll have another search. If I do find it i'll let you know.

Oh BTW Pete, i'm pretty sure I heard that the Leon had an aerial amp built in the aerial feed, in the A pillar or somewhere..
I've had Sony, Clarion, Kenwood and JVC units plugged in the Leon (don't ask why), radio had always been ok.
