.....which dealer do you think is the best for post sales customer service out of the following?

Tadworth
Hampton Court
Camberley
Windsor

or, my local one, Farnham?

Bascially, I'm pi$$ed off with Farnham and am willing to travel that little bit extra just to get good advice and service.

Any comments most welcomed.

I use Focus (Frimley) who seem OK.

Farnham are a big :bomb: IMHO!

Camberly.
Mainly because they are the closest. Had a few problems with them a few years back (couldn't seem to fix the fault after multiple visits) but they seem to have got over that and have been OK since then. Fingers crossed they can fix my bumper problem this Thursday !

My colleague at work uses the Wimbledon one, he reckons they are quite good.

Not had to use them yet - only had my car 2 weeks.

But bought if from Camberley - the Farnham one didn't want to play my games!

Just before my import arrived I phoned the Farnham place to see if they would be happy to service it etc. The lady who answered said yes they'd service it but "don't do warranty work on imports".

I haven't darkened their door since....

I've ordered my MY04 from Westerham Garage. The salesman was friendly and let me and my girlfriend take the car out alone on the testdrive. When I got back, I had a good 10 minute discussion with the service manager about service costs etc. which was encouraging.

Did you know that the service charges vary depending on the engine number ? Also (and I forget a bit), if your engine number starts with AQV (or something like that) it needs the cam belt done at 40k instead of the usual 80k. Apparantly, when production demand is high, they source some engines from Japan, and those engines need the belt done earlier. Seeing as Japs have to pay £000s for MOTs after a few years, they sell cars quick, hence why we get so many Jap imports. Could be a reason.

Ho hum !

I live about a mile from Wiltshires in Farnham.....I took delivery of my Platinum 'R' from Hampton Court a couple of weeks ago, I think that probably says it all.

I found the guys there to be friendly and welcoming (not to mention patient!). I had a small problem with the air con a couple of days after taking delivery, they got me in next day (Saturday morning) and sorted it immediately with no fuss.

can't give a better recommendation than that. :)

Wiltshires refused to give me a test drive of a 110 TDi, one that was sitting unregistered inside the showroom, so went to Focus who got one in from another dealer for me. Wouldnt touch them with a barge poll.

Similar to Urban Tiger,,,, when I moved from Aldershot to Andover, I was 2 miles from the local dealer. Unfortunately there even worse, told me lies and swore at me as I have an import. Anyway, I now spend my money at Husseys in Newbury. 3 services p.a. +parts+ accessories loss for my local dealer.

Try Focus, heard some more positive things recently

Thanks guys.

This all confirms what I have started thinking about Wiltshires. They proved okayish when I bought the car but from the day I drove it away, they haven't been interested. Based on stuff that I've read on this forum I've been quite confident in dealing with them (I'm not really that good with cars, just love the R  ) but they've tried to dismiss the forum each time, saying that they've never had such problems etc and that it must be just a few people complaining all the time.

Focus Camberley is my next nearest option, but I might try Hampton Court - only thing is, I wonder if either will want to sort out the mess that Wiltshires have made of my bonnet?

The Guys at Focus are "superb", I've had 3 cars from them in the last 2 years and its always been back for servicing and any other little niggles, always keen to help.......... never any doubt, thats where you should be heading.....

My tale of Surrey(ish) SEAT dealers goes something like this...

Got a Cupra test drive at Farnham (Wiltshires), but they were not flexible on price (or anything else)...

...went to Focus (Frimley/Camberley) even less flexible on price...

...purchased from SMC Windsor, very poor attention to detail, but good price (hmmm, a connection possibly?).

Have since returned to Focus to have some minor work done and all has been well enough so far.

May Investigate Hampton Court Garage as I tend to work in Richmond area from time to time!

I find this bad press on Wiltshires really strange.

I bough my V5 from Great Covert second hand but use Wiltshires as they are near. I've so far had no problems, and in fact they've gone out of their way to solve a problem I had with LHS pull problem reported elsewhere. They have also dealt with all my warranty issues.

The only thing I would note is that the guy on reception is one of the most miserable people I've had to deal with.

If you've got a service related problem that's awkward to fix try speaking directly to Kevin Wiltshire, it gets results.

whats the problem with the bonnet?

When I first washed the car (with 800 miles on the clock) I noticed a light patch about 6 inches square just to the left of the raised centre. Took it to the dealers, who at first tried to claim that I had polished that area. Finally they agreed to buff the whole bonnet but have only managed to make the whole bonnet look the same as the light patch.

With so many of us in the 'area' perhaps a small mini meet might be worthwhile to exchange notes etc? ;)

Was thinking the same thing, there seem to be quite a lot of us within quite a small radius - guess we need to figure out a central point/nice meeting spot.

Not seen your red R neither.

You might consider Hunters Lodge on the A322, decent open car park for piccies, beer garden, although it's now raining, and a decent size pub with food.

Hunters Lodge was the only place I could think of with a decent sized car park and being not too bad a pub.

Bob, what's that place in St Johns by the canal next to Nissan called/like?

Or could always go to what used to be the old Beefeater by the canal nearer Woking?

Use hampton Court for sales, they are the best

ask to deal with a guy called Ian Brookfield (tell him Tony from Akzo Nobel sent you)

he is not a pushy salesman and really knows his stuff, great guy and will get everything you need sorting....sorted, i highly reccommend him!:) :D

The Row Barge. Changed owner not too long ago - food was OK but the car park is a bit on the small side.

Not too bad, food is a bit 'posh', ie. expensive and not that good really. Is the same chain as 'Worplesdon Place' which might be a better meeting point as it has a huge car park.

I bought my LCR and have had the 10k service done recently at Hampton Court. Both were handled without any bother. Only slight problem is with regard to getting a courtesy car organised as you can need to book 2 weeks in advance. This may be the norm though.

Thanks again for the comments.

I've decided to take the car to Hampton Court. Spoke to Matthew in servicing who was very helpful. Although they need to see the car first, he hinted that there would be no problem getting the problem fixed under warranty. I'd even get a courtesy car (normal practice, you'd think, but Wiltshires refused to give me one last time  ).

Already a lot happier. Will see if they mind fixing the key scratch along the passenger side at the same time!

I'd like to come along. How many people normally go to these things mid-week?

edc
23-07-2003, 19:59
Normal attendance - not applicable; we've not met at this location before nor is it regular. A few of us meet in Staines sometimes, rather irregularly now. If everyone enjoys it we'll do it again. 6 or more committed to come so far, can't remember numbers.

ps best off posting the meet Q's in the meet threads;)

I use Wiltshires and apart from my stereo epic problem they have been ok! Barry and Kevin are top guys, very helpful and sort out problems quickly. However, whoever mentioned the Service Manager, I totally agree, that guy is bad! Don't get me started ...
