The day is prioritised for 1.8T engined cars so at the moment, subject to confirmation from those on the list already, I will have to have a reserve list.

25 cars is the max Power Station said they would run... Maybe a couple more on the day perhaps, but it cannot be open ended.

I'll have to let you know.

PVW have confirmed they will be attending and supporting this for a feature.

OK, cheers Bill.

I'll come along to spectate any way, as you said that's alright, and then if there is space perhaps I can go on, so put me on the reserve list.

Neil.

Have a look at it..
They don't have restrictor plates in the throttle, but proper common rail injectors...

I'm not sure if Duncan Grier is still going...cos last i heard, his car was being reverted back to std so that he can flog it!

He has already sold his AP Racing 4 pots apparently.

So might be an extra place going spare there Bill!

If you have some details of what you would want to put on etc... and dates when you would like, I could pass the info on.
OR
You could give Dirk (who I spoke to) or Richard (who did my RR on my own Ibiza) a call on 01242 238400.

I don't know what they're like on email replying as they're as busy as hell most of the time. I popped in and had a chat (best way to deal with people I find) and everything was cool with them.

Their preference is a Saturday am to do club rolling road shoot outs.
Last weekend they did a Club GTiR/EVO shoot out but I only got there when it was just finished otherwise I could have seen how they do things on a busy 25 car RR day.

Let me know what you would like me to do.

Hey Bill,

I tried emailing you a couple of weeks ago regarding this RR session.
Don't know if you received it or not as my email has been having all sorts of problems recently (my crappy computer is a pain in the arse, never bloody works properly).
Basically, if any places are available I would be interested in attending, if not, no worries, will probably show up anyway to have a nose and put names to faces.
The car I own is a 2001 Ibiza 20VT in stock form.

If anyone else is travelling up there from the Surrey area, do you want some company? Could be fun.:D :D

Bill,

I've been away for a bit so I haven't caught up with the threads yet, but last thing I remember was that you were trying out an induction kit or something (Or am I going mad?)... have you got it?
If so is it any good, can you feel a significant difference?
Will it be on your car on the RR day?

Appologies if you have discussed this in another thread but as I said, I haven't caught up with the other threads yet.

3 weeks to go.

Hi Ben
The induction kit is'nt with me yet.. and won't be on for the 19th RR sessions now. I have other things to prove/disprove on that day, so the car will remain as supplied until after then.

I am looking at 2 different types at the moment. BMC and Hurricane. The Hurricane one for the Ibiza is'nt ready yet, but should be available to me for WK01 2002.

Hows things with yours?

Mines not too bad thanks Bill, the big hesitations are very rare now.... (normally only occur when you really need the power... eg. overtaking! ;) )

I've got a few semi minor problems with the car...eg. the internal fan squeeks and its driving me absolutely mad.
Also, the mirrors are totally mad... I go out in the morning and they are clear, I drive along a few miles and they are so covered in condensation that you can't see anything in them! If I then wipe them with a cloth they just condensate up again with a couple of minutes!!! This is quite dangerous on the motorway.
This is happening whether I have the heated mirrors on or off!

Also, the heated mirrors appear to have real problems meltiing the frost when the mirrors freeze up... maybe they aren't working.

Thanks,
Ben

PS. Is there any reason why I shouldn't get an oil change on the 18th and then goto the RR on the 19th? New oil doesn't take a while to thin out or anything does it?

Bill and others,

I know it's late in the day, but I have further news on the Unichip for the 19th if there's still space available.

I spoke to Gerry regarding what discount he could offer for the guinea pig of the Unichip. He came back offering a Unichip 'Free Of Charge' and the user will only have to pay for the mapping.

Therefore who ever wants to go for it will save £245+vat for the chip itself and just have to pay for the mapping. Mapping varies in price from car to car. Gerry has said that the car will need to go to Owen Developments in Kingston Bagpuize in Oxfordshire. Their number is 01865 820580 and Mark Harrison is the contact.

Obviously we need a donor car, a space on the 19th and someone to get to and contact Owen Developments before the 19th. Obviously they need to be contacted soon to see if they have space.

Let me know your thoughts.

Cheers,

Chris.

Hmmm.... I could quite easily be tempted by this and I'm already booked in for the rolling road, so could be good.

Do you have a vague idea of price for mapping, I wouldn't want to commit to anything without that. Also, what sort of guarantee, performance etc... are they offering.

If it'd be better to discuss this via e-mail, drop me a line at fastshow@gmx.co.uk

Available places are reserves only at the moment. If someone already down for the 19th was to have this done in between now and then, that would be the only guaranteed way of getting in on the session. It is quite likely for one or two people not to make it, so the reserve list could well be in with a shout. I can't promise anything though as PS have the final say.

Mic,

Can you see any problems with me using a bleed valve on my car to increase the boost to 17psi on my upsoluted leon?, it is already fitted because of the LPG conversion and they have taken my turbo up to 21psi, although at this pressure the hoses kept popping off the intercooler!!!, they fitted stronger hose clips on, but if the lpg kit comes off (it looks very likely now) i am thinking of asking them to leave the bleed valve on?, my turbo has been running 21 psi for the last 700 miles with mo adverse effects that i could see so 17 shouldnt be a problem should it?, what do you think?

Impossible
07-01-2002, 22:08
Not to much of a problem at 17psi, must let car cool down properly etc after those runs you do..
You will have to check the Air/fuel mix, mid-top end, the upsolute chip will send information to the fuel supply for the amount of boost you are running so that it runs at the best mix, but the FPR can only supply so much though the needle valve, this is way you may have to go for a bigger needle valve.
I saw a guy at the dyno the other day that does LPG conversion, he told me that the restritor ring is the old way of doing it, and is only suitable for normal carb cars, the new seperate LPG injector for each chamber is the best way for turbo cars..he left before i got this number..sorry

Cheers Mic, not to worry on the phone number as you cant injuct LPG into a 15psi inlet pressure cos the max LPG pressure you can get is 9psi!!, the place who tried the conversion are taking advantage of the lower pressure directly behind the restrictor ring to inject the gas into!, so off boost as the pressure drops off it forces the boost back up to the LPG's FPR !!

Hi Mic.
They measure the overrun on the slowdown after the power run to get a "Drag output" figure. See this>> http://www.badger5.demon.co.uk/bin/vx51hkk-dynoplot1-halfsize.jpg for an example of my own previous (low reading) run.

This bleed valve idea is looking quite promising then.
How easy/difficult and how expensive would it be to do?
Any ideas?

What about if I need a bigger needle valve, is that difficult to do? Expensive?

BILL, i'm on the reserve list but my car is in at ameythest having air bag sorted .it may take 5 minutes it may take all day so take me off the list ,i'll be a spectator, ;)

Fitting a bleed valve will cost you about £20 for the valve itself, then all you do is cut the pipe and insert it in and adjust it to your desired pressure!!, you need to have a chipped car for this to work, and you will need to have a boost gauge fitted so that you can see how high you are taking the boost,

It is also not confirmed that you will be able to increase the boost this way without limp mode cutting in, i have quite a bit of extra electronics interfacing with my ecu at the moment which might be the reason i am able to run 21psi of pressure,

But i would say that it does involve a considerable risk to your engine!!!, get the boost wrong or forget to do up the locking screw, or if a pipe falls off for some reason, it is gonna be a very expensive repair!!, so be carefull how high you take the power up, i would suggest no higher than 18psi, i am going to try 17 at first and see how it goes, although the intercooler might need to be uprated because i think it is something like an 18 degree c rise for every extra pound of pressure you add:eek:

So any idea when your gonna try it Mosser?
I'd only look at taking it up 1 or 2 psi so shouldn't be too bad.
And at £20 its not too bad if it doesn't work (ie. the ECU realises something is wrong and enters the failsafe mode.).

You go first Mosser, and I'll copy if your engine doesn't go bang! :D

.... now, where did I see those nitrous kits ...

Dear everyone.

The main list at the top of this post has been updated with RR names for your info.
1.8t's have priority as I have said (its a 1.8T day after all) but I hope the reserves will also get on the rollers... fingers crossed.

Lupo 1.8T not ready in time sadly... so cannot make it.
Possible Golf Mk1 1.8T with Emerald ECU to replace but this is TBC. (anyone read CCC in the last couple of months would have read a small bit on this car)
Amethysts ex-210 demonstrator (blue one) will be attending now.

Its getting close...:D :D :D

I am gonna try it as soon as i get my car back!, assuming i get it back running on petrol, if its on lpg it will still be running 21psi and i dont know how long the turbo is going to keep going!, the bleed valve is already fitted on mine so its just a case of adjusting it to the pressure i want!

I will be bringing a scanner in case anyone wants their dyno run scanned in and emailed back to them!, that way you can all post you dyno plots even if you dont have a scanner!

Yup, tiny handheld one!!, produces very good 600dpi scans though, you just swipe it across the page in two goes cos its not wide enough and it reassembles the page in memory and you can view it on the lcd screen built in!!, its a nice piece of kit!, i will also be bringing a digital camera too in case anyone wants a digital piccie of their car on or off the rollers, or even both!!

Attention ALL RR attendees:-

The day is nearly upon us, and to ensure you get an accurate write up of your cars modifications and performance in Performance VW Magazine, they and I ask that you printout the following dyno sheet.

if you can do this before you come, filling out as many details as you can, them time on the day will be saved, and we can all watch the RR action.

Mark Harries from PVW will be there on the day to cover the sessions, peoples cars etc... photos etc.., and has supplied this form for us to complete.

We will bring forms on the day for those of us with less than 100% memories ( ), but it will help the day run smoother and faster if this is done before hand. We have a LOT of cars to get through on the day... Please help us help you.

the dyno sheet can be downloaded from here:-
http://www.badger5.demon.co.uk/bin/PVW-RR-Day-Spec-Sheet.xls

Many thanks guys.
all the best

Check your engines have oil and water, your tyre pressures are right...

If I find that I don't have any oil on the day I'll be a little annoyed as I'm getting an Oil Change the day before! ;)
