Right, well went to test drive the 1.6 16v 105PS today as my mum is looking at getting one, got to say was appalled by its performance. Everything else was great, felt really nice to drive, just the rubbish power problem. Was just so gutless! needless to say she wont be buying the 1.6 16v now, think its going to be the diesel 105PS with a map :D

should be a nice white SC with black rims and a few extra toys on it when she orders it :D

so the driveway here will have a mk3, mk4 and a mk5 on it soon

Well when you've been driving a 250bhp earth guzzler then what do you expect with a 105PS ??, it has enough power for me, power isn't everything and when you drive nearly 400 miles a week like i do then fuel economy is the main priority, then reliability, then looks, then power !!

ians car is good on fuel! Ok its running 250bhp @ the fly it's not earth guzzler! He can get some good figures driving it with a bit of play and sensible right foot :P

But sensible right foot kinda defeats the power thing a bit ! - i had a Leon Cupra till a lorry decided to drop a wrench on it just before xmas ! -- was only getting 29mpg as opposed to 40+ in my Ibiza 1600S. Might not be important to many, but fuel is priority when i do so many miles. I actually save £60+ a month on fuel now, power is great but not everything in a car :)

well thats one thing i noticed, sat at 70mph on the motorway, it was worse on fuel than my 250bhp earth guzzler is at the same speeds, so its definately going to be the diesel when she gets one.

That 1.6 felt about as quick as a 1.0l corsa

400 miles a week is 20,800 miles a year, you should have got a diesel as you are deffo in the mileage bracket where a diesel pays.

That £60 could be £100

nathwarr: the reason i didn't go for a diesel was because it was £600 more and diesel is 11p a litre more up here. Done the maths and figured it would take 2.5 years for diesel to surpass petrol !. As for the mileage it doesn't really matter because by the time it gets to around 50k i will be getting another one anyway, so i wasn't too bothered about diesel. Oh and the fact i couldn't get a second hand diesel at the time. I got £2400 knocked off new price on this one, i paid £9800 for a 5 month old mk5 with 1,800 miles on the clock, owned by Seat as a demo, fsh etc so i'm not complaining. The equivalent car brand new should have been £12,200 as it has BT Radio (£245), 17" alloys (£135) and metallic paint (£345?). So haven't done too bad out of it !

ian cupra: Are you sure you were driving the 1.6 sport ??, hell it's nowt like a 1 litre corsa !!! - i had a 1 litre corse a few years back, there's a big difference !. As for the mpg i would have taken it back to the garage to test the fuel lines !!!! - i get 41 mpg out of mine without any sweat, 29mpg out of my Leon Cupra on the very same home-work-home journeys !! :)

Andy

when i had a go in a 1.4 new ibiza i couldnt beleive how gutless it was the salesman was trying to tell me it was quicker than my old 98bhp clio it really wasnt it handled nice and felt nice to drive was just gutless i didnt like the look of it anyway and wanted somthing with alot more power hence my present car.
