Really like the look of this here stereo -

DEHP8400MP

Go ahead: open the motorized flap face and throw down a WMA- or MP3-encoded disc. Or pop in a regular CD, CD-R, or CD-RW: the DEH-P8400MP plays them all, and it also controls Pioneer CD changers. The Organic Electroluminescent (OEL) display will totally transform your dash with full-motion and 3D graphics, and when the motorized flap face is open, the OEL's dual display areas provide you with two sets of info. A MOSFET 50 Watts x 4 power supply delivers big, clean audio and you get three pair of Hi-Volt (4V) RCA pre-outs if you want to add amps. Sound Focus EQ (SFEQ) gives you independent bass and treble control for front and rear so you can fine-tune your music. The DEH-P8400MP is XM Ready and comes with a slim remote.

CD Receiver with Dual Display (LED and Organic EL), MOSFET50, EEQ™/SFEQ, Supertuner® III™, MP3 / WMA Playback, IP-Bus System Control, XM Ready, Card Remote, Rotary Volume Control, Flap Face, Detachable Face Security™ and Hi-Volt Preouts.

=============

Do you think the colour will be ok in the MY03 dash? It's kinda dark-silvery-ish. I guess i can't use my changed with a pioneer unit but i want MP3 anyway..

It's a nice unit and I almost bought one myself, however there's a lot of stuff in it you don't really need and there is something better/cheaper... Save yourself some money and go for the Pioneer DEH-P77MP It's looks really classy, has better pre-outs if you ever need them AND is only £230 add a 6 disc changer to go in the glovebox and you'll have a very nice bit of kit for the same cash...

It's here if you want to see it...

I agree with pete unless you want all the flashy lights save a bit of money and get the 77 my lass has it in her clio system and its the equal to anything upto 3 times its price for Soundquality.

Thanks for the info. I do quite like the look of the '77!

Do you think the '84 would look ok tho?

Want sound quality - obviously - but i'm a really big kiddie for motorised-flashy-lighty-thingies :)

The '84 is silver whereas the '77 is a darker brushed metal. I'd say the '77 would fit in better and it looks classier... :D

You're probably right, but the i'm driving a turbo-charged-banana so subtlety doesn't come in to it :)

Have to see how much cash i've got lying round end of the month - maybe a holiday first!

I'd personally give the 8400 a miss too.

A friend of mine has one - bought it when it was brand new. For the first month, he kept on showing off his fancy OED display.

After that, he got bored of having to uncover the screen every time he started the car, so he just uses it with the cover in the top position and the cheapo single-line display to control it - less messing around.

If you want one with a OED display, I suggest you get one where it's always showing - the 8400 is a bit too much messing around, and you might well find you don't use it, which is a waste of money really. :)

Thanks, valid points... Hmm... I guess i really need to see one in the flesh and make my own mind up. Frankly, if there was a mod to make my car have led's like knight rider i would do it :) I'm that sort of chap... Bling bling baby :p

Seems that everyone love the pioneer stuff. I gotta admit it looks and is great, but i still prefer the clarion units.
They sound exceptional (only thing I've heard better are the Nak HUs), look great (granted they don't have OED) and match our car's red ligthing

Big fan of clarion myself; but i don't get on with the styling. But that's just a personal-choice-thang isn't it?

Bit of an update on this i finallly forked out for a HU and went for the Pioneer DEH-P77MP on Pete's (and others!) recommendation. I think this'll look loverly in the '03 dash and the fact the money has been spent on quality sound not flashy lights is prolly a good thing. Bit of a bargain too methinks, i paid 230ukp for it :)

Pete's offered to help install so fingers crossed etc..
