View Full Version : Dension DMP3 installation
Hi,
I've received my Dension DMP3 this week and have some questions regarding the installation of it in my Seat Ibiza MK3.
I'm gonna use the Connects2 adapter to connect it to my CD-Changer input.
I've already read that it might be usefull to connect the DMP3 straight to my battery because it uses a lot of power. But I'm not sure from where I have to connect it to my battery? Do I have to cut the cable that comes out of the back the dmp3 itself (and which normally would go completely into the adapter)? Or can I do this somewhere else?
Thanks in advance,
Dave
(From memory and assuming the design hasn't changed)
There is a long cable that comes out of the Dension carhost and then this has a short adapter cable on the end of it which converts the dension connector into a sony unilink connector for the Connects2 box. This short lead has a red lead hanging out of it which can be connected direct to your battery.
I connected mine to the permanent live coming into the back of my leons stereo and have had no problems.

Yep thats the one. Short red wire should go to the cable you connect direct to the battery

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. I've one extra question:
Do you suggest to do this (connecting the dmp3 straight on the battery), or is it not 100% necessary. The hd I bought for it is a Maxtor DiamondMax 8, 40GB (7200rpm).
thnx,
Dave

It does need connecting direct mate. You will have all sorts of problems with it powering up if you don't
Pete
Hi,
I've added a picture. Could you tell me if the wire that I marked is the correct one? So the one that needs to go the battery.
Thx,
Dave
I'm thinking about one of these seeing as my CD changer is on the blink.
Is it any good? And where in the UK is the cheapest place to get one from? Do you have to supply your own HDD?
Power in the boot isn't a problem as I'm guessing I could just use the existing power that's fed to my amp.
Cheers!

That's the wire mate. Without that connecting to 12v it wont work and straight to the battery is the way to power it.
Monty - as long as you put a fuse block in so you have a fused feed to the amp and separate one for the DMP3 then the cable coming from the the battery for the amp is fine :)
They come with an 80GB HDD installed. There's my review on the main site and on icecavern.co.uk too.

New question :) thanks pete for clearing up the previous one.
As I'm planning to put my hd and carhost in the trunk of my car. The extra cable that was provided with the complete dmp3 set, is way too long. Too long because my dmp3 will be so close to my cd-changer, so I don't need it to be that long. So I'm looking for another one. But for that I need to know if this cable (8-pins cable) is special made or just a regular one on one matching cable?
Can anybody clear this out for me?
Thanks in advance,
Dave
Finally I got my dmp3 installed. Detailed info and pictures can be found @ www.ibizamania.net under Tuning > HowTo.
Attached is a preview of the result.
Top work !!!
....excellent mounting position!!!
Now I'm really tempted :)

Can I ask exactly what Dension components you used?
...i.e. which adaptors
Thanks!
