In my 1.6 Sport getting around 36 mpg. Try a longer run (like 10 miles plus and report back here).

My 1.6 sport averages at 30mpg, seems poor, but acceptable.

Also tweedz, reset your number 2 trip computer on each fill up and see what it reports as your mpg for the whole consumption of the tank. It's pointless resetting trip 1 as it resets itself after 2 hours anyway !
My trip and my scangauge agree on approx 36mpg, but i work 18 miles away so it gets a good decent warm run.

Consumption figures will get better as the engines loosen up. New engines tend to be tight, therefore use more fuel. Give'em time boys, and enjoy!!!

Canonman, what size engine is your Ibiza ? - i have the Ibiza Sport 1.6 5 door and the best i have gotten is 43.1mpg. It averages 37mpg at the moment on legs of about 18 miles to work (straight run, no traffic on the way to work, but traffic on the way home).
The engine has 5,500 on the clock, so i would consider that "run-in" !
(oh, just out of curiosity, what is the green symbol lit on your speedo ? - i haven't seen it on mine and feel a little left out now :( )

I agree thats "run-in", but still think several thousand miles more will improve the consumption further and you seem to be doing a decent run to and from work, this does help.

Thats pretty good mpg Canonman ! - yeh i travel to work 18 miles a day so it will help improve the lifespan of the engine (i think!), better than doing short runs !.
If i'm careful (ie not leaving rubber on the road :)) then i can get about 43mpg on a morning (no traffic), and about 40mpg to home (medium amount of traffic). I reset the mpg reading on "Trip 2" whenever i refuel and it says around 37mpg, which pretty much tallies in with what i believe to be true.
That's still not bad for a 1.6 litre car, i can remember my Mondeo 1.6 never got much above 30mpg (granted, it's heavier).
I was getting 29mpg in my Leon Cupra before it died in December (RIP), so to get 37mpg saves me nearly £50 a month, which if you think about it is £600 a year (or the price of a service, 4 tyres and a whole years insurance !!!).
I have to admit i've fallen in love with the mk5 Ibiza, it's safe to say that it's better than my girlfriend (she's not on this site !! haha) :)

Yea I travel 60 miles a day so that helps mpg. We have sold the 1.4 now so I am getting the 1.9 hopefully so I will see what I can get out of that
Did use to see low 40mpg at best with my old 1.4.
Manage to coax 32mpg out of my current car so there is definite room for improvment with your 1.4.

Hi Canonman, did you not like the 1.4, or did u just fancy the 1.9 diesel ?

1.4 is fine but it was demo and it got sold and as I do a big milage I wanted the 1.9 so hopefully sales manager will say we will have the 1.9 as demo or the only other we got left are 1.6's

Ah right, yep i was looking at the 1.9D also, but at that time (Dec 08/Jan 09) they weren't available as demo cars, and when i worked out the fuel (for the mileage i do), offsetting the extra cost in diesel against better mpg in the diesel, and the fact the diesel was £600 more at the time, i came to the conclusion that it would take me 2.5 years to reap any benefits in diesel vs petrol. But for the miles you do, diesel is a much better choice !
When i bought my 1.6S it was a demo car with the SEAT garage, with 1800 on the clock, and i got £2400 knocked off, which was a pretty good deal i think, and it had BlueTooth Radio, Digital Climate Control, 17" alloys and black metallic paint, so it was perfect for what i wanted. Demo cars are a good buy as they are usually well looked after, being owned by SEAT.

Which is a BIG bonus i guess ! :).
A little off topic, but do you know how much a service is for the Ibiza mk5 1.6 ? - 10k, and 20k services ?
Should they be less than the Leon Cupra i had ?
The salesman told me when i bought it that he would give me the first service at cost price, so i must remember to tell them that when it's due it's 10k in a couple of months time !

It all depends on which dealer you use, for example, we charge £99, £159, £99 and £199 respectively for the 10, 20, 30 and 40K services on all Ibiza, Leon, Altea and Altea XL models. I've heard of some dealers charging almost double that.

Cheers Gary, that's a little worrying that they can charge just what they want, although £99 is very reasonable. I have to get it done at a SEAT garage to keep the warranty in order but wouldn't you think all SEAT owned garages would be forced by SEAT to charge a standard price !

I have a 1.4SE, I have been averaging about 37mpg during the week (I drive about 60 miles a week).
I drove it Norwich and back yesterday (about 320 miles), on the way down I averaged 52.7, and on the way back I got 44.3. Which I think was pretty good.

Well i have the 1.6 Sport and i do about 250+ miles a month and i'm averaging about 37mph (home to work is 18 miles of minor A roads), although if i drive it really carefully i have gotten 43mpg from it...never had more than 43.1mpg on a run (over a decent distance). I was a little disappointed on the mpg as i'm sure the book had said WELL over that !, although i suppose they test their cars in dust free, air free, friction free environments where there are no kids in the back, nothing in the boot, air con off, lights off and everything which uses the battery switched off !

hi, i've had my ibiza 1.4sport for just over a year with 6000miles on the clock. recently just had my 1st service (£155). to be honest, i'm pretty dissapointed with the car, from the very start ive been in and out of the dealers with problems. electric windows failing, leaking and squeaky window seals, leather steering wheel falling apart after only 100miles. these have been sorted now, however the most annoying thing is the fuel gauge. from day 1 it has had a mind of its own. sometimes, even after filling up, the gauge will read empty/0miles, and continue to display this for a day or two. other times the screen goes completly blank so its impossible to know how much petrol ive got at all. when it does work it fluctuates wildly; the fuel range dropping by 100miles sometimes after only traveling 20miles ???!! ive been to the dealers about 6-7 times about this to no avail. ive counted 6 courtesy cars ive had to have (bearing in mind this is a brand new car). the best reading ive had off a full 45litre tank is about 260miles. that is not good mpg im guessing, if the reading is correct that is. can anyone help?

dunno mate, i've got a 1.6crtdi sport, and round town im only getting 280-300 miles from a tank full. i do have a bit of a lead foot as i'm still getting used to having so much torque on demand, and it feels a shame to let it go to waste, but on a motorway run it'll do 50+ so i don't think theres anything majorly wrong with mine, other than my driving style

As much as it pains me to say this,
Your like the Beta Testers of the new Ibiza range, In 2-3 more years they'll release a revised version with all the fixes and call it a "Facelift"
They do it on all VAG Cars.
I'm not saying its right, just the way it is sadly.
