only that for similar money I would buy an ibiza, the lack of guts & a poor quality interior (see that bare metal door frame)

my lass made the same decision (without me prompting her)

If it's a 2003 then it wiill be much better than the 2002 - no horrid grey "gets marked by water" interior..

Nice lil car, I wish my siobhan had've bought the s over the base model - only another few £100

Yeah it would be the new shape MY03 model, either platinum or arctic grey depending on availability - 2nd hand or ex demo is the option.

BTW the inside frame of the Leon is bare metal at the doors uprights, with black you dont notice it as much.

Did you mean all the way round like the old metro's ?

Yip the spec on the S is much better for a diff of £500 at rrp prices, and second hand this is even less.

It may only have 50bhp but it's not being bought for speed - obviously. The only Ibiza i could get for the same money would be a W reg sort of age, not the new shape.

So do they have any bad problems to be aware of ?

The odd behind dash squeek / rattle (usually the alarm horn or cup holders), look out for any minor paint defects and check the spare wheel well has got everything it. That's about it.. What you buying it for?

Wife's run around, probably 99% local town driving. Max 5-6k / year

Believe it or not this started out at getting a £200 banger, not it's going up and up, got to lookign at R. S. T reg Polos but their the same price and no warranty cover - piece of mind.

They're a good little car, i loved mine and I know Siobhan loves her lil 1.0 base model.

Try get one registered in 2003 then you'll get 5 years AA cover over the previous 3 ;)

I had a 2001 SEAT Arosa 1.0 S and it was a nice car. It's not the fastest car out there by any stretch, nor is the handling up to much but the ride is comfy, the interior nice and the running costs low. The bare metal interior doesn't mean it's low quality; it's the same interior as the Lupo/old Polo and for the most part screwed together to the same standard.

The 1.0 is fine around town and pootling about, but for motorways and longer journey's it needs to be revved hard. If the 1.0 is too slow there is always the option of the entertaining 1.4 TDi, although that'll be for quite a bit more cash. There's a brand new 1.4 manual out now, but a second hand one of them is probably quite unlikely at the moment...? Of course there is always the 16v Sport!

As far as I know there are no major problems to be aware of, other than the usual kerbed alloys, paint problems and a marked interior on the older light grey cloth.

I really like Arosas, great little cars and look much better than there Lupo bretheren!

HTH,
Chris

Yeah i noticed that, isit the same level of cover or just the basic cover to the nearest dealer ?

Yeah the S model comes with a good few mor ebits n bobs like RC locking, access plus seats, lecky windows, alloys.

There is a base model for sale in my dealers for 5795, 03 reg and 3.5k miles - seems a bit steep to me, could that be because they are not ready to sell it yet ?

If 6k new and 275 for metalic paint, id hav though it nearer 5250, need to haggle a lot, but then again its not an S. :(
