Someone please help me!

I have a metallic rattling noise coming from the front exhaust pipe of my Ibiza Cupra 2.0 8v (1997). My local Seat dealer said it was the heat shield and that to fix it the front pipe would need replacing (as the shield cannot be removed). However this apparently contains the catalyst and it all comes to (after labour) £880.

So what do I do to get rid of this rattling without spending all that?

Many thanks,

-Tom.

I got a few of the plastic trim nuts & wound them onto the stubs that the heatshield hangs from.

stopped my rattling for free (nuts came from the ibiza i stripped out)

most ppl get the heat shield welded
cheap as takes very little time and expertise

could prove interesting!!!!!

correct me if im wrong (long day)
but i believe there is a heat shield attached to the actuall exhaust on the 8v shape, as apposed to between the zorst and body

these are usually held on by two bolts which rust and corrode beyond belief and rattle

there is one that is under the cat, but most rattle on the underbody ones

as the one under the cat is more of a scuff guard

It's actually the heat shield on the downpipe that rattles on the cupra sport. It's a thin metal surround round the downpipe. It cannot be removed easily and I haven't found a way of stopping my rattle yet

Rest assured you are not alone. Every mk2 cupra sport gets this problem.

:spin: I used a large jubilee clip around my mk3 Golf GTI downpipe shield - tightened good and tight; it never rattled again! Might be worth a try.
