View Full Version : v5 170 bhp upgrade air filter good idea?
As a cheap improvement on horses and mpg does anyone reccomend a quality, easy fittable air filter?
A Mk4 Golf K&N will drop straight in the Toledo V5.
I know some other people on the forum recommend the Jetex filter for the V5.
I run a K&N. Can't say I've noticed any change in fuel consumption, and increase in BHP is not really noticable in my experience, but the motor does pick up nice with the free flow filter :)

I would have thought that if you're putting more air into the mix you would need more fuel to 'balance' it.As Ive said before I have a rudimentry knowledge of 'motors'
Other way round mate as I understand it.
Better air flow into your engine = more efficient combustion.
So, if anything, a free flow filter should improve mpg slightly.
Cheers,
Sounds good:) Is it the induction kit I should be looking at or is there a basic K+N filter Mk4 golf? Do you know of a cheap supplier?

I got my Mk4 Golf panel filter (not an induction kit, just a replacement filter) from Euro Car Parts
www.eurocarparts.com (http://www.eurocarparts.com)
£35 as I recall. Not sure on induction kits.
I don't think you'll notice much, even with an induction kit you'll probably only get 5-7hp tops.
Don't forget, if you're buying from ECP there is a discount;)

Thats what the car has an ECU for... it will automatically adjust minor differences in the air/fuel ratio caused by performance filters.

I put a flat panel K&N in my (std at the time) 180bhp leon cupra.
it made a very slight difference to top end pull near the redline but I felt as though I'd lost some torque lower down..
so I took it off and slung it bearing in mind that the majority of my driving isn't done at 6500rpm.
The std panel filter in the 180bhp leon 20vt is the same part as the one in the TT225 so its obviously well up to its job anyway.
Have revo now with 210bhp and still haven't felt the need to swap the filter for a non std.

The only problem with a standard filter is that the amount of air that gets through is ruduced quicker with the standard filter. This becomes real annoying when you live in a country with alot of dust flying around.
