About 2 months ago I posted a thread detailing how I had meddled with a Dawes device on my '02 Leon Cupra. The upshot of it all was that I was slaughtered on the replies and rapidly removed it from my car fearing terminal damage.
My original instal was on the original factory program(standard boost/ign/timing/fueling)and I ran the car at 10psi.I did this on the understanding that the factory wastegate did occasionally spike to 10psi and therefore SEAT must have accounted for this in the fueling/ign/timing.I tried it with the n75 connected and bypassed.
It is fare to say that the car was explosively fast through the gears and had instant boost (no sleepy build up)
It did everything Dawes said it would do and better.

So what now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

One month ago I had my car Upsoluted and I haven't looked back.......
Many of you are out and out APR/Jabba types but the Upsolute Program seems to suit my driving style and wallet size.

Today I stumbled across the Dawes in my tool box and yep the tinkering began.
Dawes recommend once a line is connected to the waste gate that the original line is plugged and another boost source is located. This would once again involve bypassing the n75 and would in theory mean taking the new source near the inlet manifold.this meant a long pipe run which I decided against. My intention was to run the maximum Upsolute boost of 14/15psi thus preventing the car running lean.I have kept the new pipe work the same length as factory and attached the Dawes into the n75.
The result is the turbo spins up instantly and boost 'under the curve'is definately higher.
Previously when I tried it the Dawes made the Boost very ON or Off with a mighty jolt if I lifted the throttle slightly mid boost(with n75 bypassed)
The engine feels bigger/stronger and more importantly more responsive with no sign of any jerkiness if I lift off mid boost and then plant the throttle again.Plus I have all the safe guards of the n75 looking in on things.
As things stand boost climbs to 14psi and falls away as the Upsolute programming does its thing and there is no sign of spiking care of the Dawes
I would now like all you tech heads out there to pull this to pieces and tell me what I've done wrong
And Brembo Bill please be gentle.

Hey chap its your car after all...
N75 can give a big shove too if programmed to do so, but its not so mechanically sympathetic.

You would at least be in a better position not re being chipped and hopefulyl adding extra fuel to go with the extr boost you'be dialled in.

Only time will tell how things pan out.

I wish you luck and hope its all goign to be ok longterm. (which it probably is)

The reservations last time were adding more boost without having done anything about fueling... which I know from experience = failure.

all the best

Agree - I read your post before bills - but do get the fuelling checked on an Air Fuel Meter / Lambda reader - I wouldn't want to rely on a 3rd party chip to account for something it's not expecting to be there

It should be fine when car is chipped and ECU doesn't enter limp mode. I know that dawes is a cool mod (for chipped ones) because i also use one (set +0.1-0.15 bar above ECUs request). As ECU would find anything which is dangerous for the engine (even running lean), it would throw a CEL and also store fault codes. I am running the dawes for 6 months now and the only fault i got was/is that "boost pressure limit exceeded/positive deviation) but that's OK as i love to fiddle with it and sometimes it is too much and car releaes boost (registers a fault). However, no CEL yet and i think i won't even get one because of this.

If you just set this thing to "deliver" the same amount of boost as your tuning chip requests, then there is no danger in it at all (in my opinion) since the boost level will be the same. You may ask why then? Well the turbo spools up a lot faster and holds boost rock solid. Way better than the N75.

Of course dawes has got some drawbacks too; it is not intelligent while the N75 is. There are cases when ECU doesn't request full boost (most of the times), but still the dawes will provide the high (lets say 1bar) boost (these K03s spools up very fast). ECU will recogise this as a fault and release boost (jerky throttle will be the result), so the dawes works perfectly only on full boost (when ECU wants maximum boost). That's why i designed a system which uses a solendoid, so the dawes is not working only @ full throtte, in other throttle positions the N75 (default way) will be working.

All this of course has to be done with caution and i don't really recommend it to everyone, only who knows what he's doing.
