Great guide to torque and power. I found it easy to understand and just reminds you that torque is King and those Honda drivers are just suffering in a strange torqueless world that is very tiring, I should know I drove a Prelude VTEC for 4 years, can be fun, but Torque is where it's at and the Cupra is just so easy to drive fast. Sorry for going on about it, trouble is torque is addictive you just want more.

Oh yes back to the article, very well written stuff, if anyone wants to know how the combustion works in engines I will dig out my old lecture notes on pre-mixed flow combustion, it all boils down to a simple equation that makes things clear like, when the inlet gasses are colder or at higher pressure you get more power(hence turbo = good and intercooler = good), it's all down to the adiabatic flame temperature of the fuel you are burning. Yawn I am boring myself now, I think its time for another vodka and coke. But hey I am impressed I can remember something from being a student 14 years ago.

Nice and simple guide there (and quite surreal, but that ain't a bad thing), much appreciated mik! :)

I was thinking the ideal world would be a high torque engine that could rev to 8000 rpm or more

Thanks Mik read the article. Seems to me that the most USABLE option is the 'Schwartzenegger' Turbo Diesel cos you cant do 8000rpm ALL the time?
From a purely comfort point of view I think it makes your ears bleed to be revving the 'nuts' off engines. For a track day then yeah I'd like a cupra. For everyday motoring I'm happy with my TDI.
