View Full Version : V5 or 20VT Sport... Help?
OK, Saturday is the day I choose a car to replace my Pug 406 (which my girlfriend drives). Having done huge miles in my Leon I want to keep it as my long distance hack, and buy a nice car for weekends/shows etc that she can use for the odd journey in the week.
I am looking at either a 'new' Toledo 20VT Sport, or a 'nearly new' Toledo V5 (which is about £2500 cheaper than the Sport).
I just cant decide because both have good points which I like…..
….The V5 has a really nice engine, Sat Nav, electric seats that adjust for tilt (which suits my long legs), cruise control etc, and is not much slower than 20VT.
….On the other hand the 20VT Sport has 6 speed box, is easily tunable to 220bhp (but looks standard) and is of course new!!!
Oh decisions!!!! :(
Depends if you want the V5s toys or the 20VTs pace. With the 20VT once you start tuning and playing it's hard to stop.
My problem exactly, I'm stuck between Sat Nav, comfy seats, V5 engine sound, cruise control, and centre armrest, against the ESP, 6 speed box, tunability and good value of the Sport….
Then again, it's down to the deal I get, and if the dealer selling a nice 51-reg Imperial Blue V5 for £10,995 can't give me a good deal, then 20VT Sport it is…. With a host of options.
I've already put an options/accessories/after market list together to try and get a few bit either chucked in, or at bargin prices on a Sport.
From SEAT
17" Cupra Alloys
Centre armrest
SEAT Sport gear knob
Rear spoiler
From other sources
Revo Software
Octavia RS shocks to compliment the RS springs I already have.
Cruise Control
If I end up with the V5 I shall just get the 17" alloys and Octavia Shocks.
We have a V5 (W reg) here at work and it doesn't seem to have the punch of the 20VT, but that could be cause i'm used to mine. Not a bad car to drive though, seats are very good.

W-reg was the 10v 150bhp version, late X-plate saw launch of the 20v 170bhp versions which are quite an improvement....

I never realised there were different ones.

As a matter of interest, on VW models they are distingusable by the badge. If it is a fully silver V5 badge then it’s the older 10v 150bhp, based on the 12v 174bhp 2.8VR6 engine. The later 170bhp models have a silver/red badge (V5), these are based on the 24v 204bhp 2.8V6. Unfortunatly all Toledo V5 models have silver V5 boot badges, but lifting the bonnet should tell you as the engine cover have a red 5 on 170 models.
I'd get the 1.8t, just cause there's alot you can do to it in terms of tuning. The V5 is great, but tuning it costs loads of cash.
If your not going to work on it, I'd then get the V5, cus of all those lovely gadgets inside.:)

Yes indeed. Other clues are the lack of throttle cable running across the engine cover on the 170, no EPC dash light or TCS button on centre console on the 150.
If it has Sat Nav fitted, unless you are lucky enough to find a 150 which had it fitted as an option, then it's a 170.
I agree with prc, if you want to mod it then 20VT is the way to go. If you want gadgets and extra comfort then the V5 is the way forward.
Of course I'm biased and voted for the V5 :)
Looks like 20VT it is…. I was being a bit of a dick, when I saw the V5 was a 2002 51-reg I assumed a late 2002, but D'oh, that would be a 52-reg…..
18 month old V5 for £11k or brand new Sport for £13.5k…. Mmmmmm, let me see…..!!!
13.5K is good for a 20VT, list is 15K
Thanks Guys,
Went to Dealer yesterday, going back today to order a 20VT Sport in Techno Grey with 18" CupraR Alloys and rear spoiler.... got a cracking deal...:D
Sounds well nice. Post some piccies when you get it!
Nice one Neil. We want pics ASAP. I definitely want to see what the car looks like on 18's.

I never got around to adding the cupra front bumper (4 in my case) because I couldn't find a suitable rear end.

At least on the Sport model the lower parts of the bumper are body colour unlike my Leon, so it won't look too out of place...
...Just wish I could have ordered a Platinum Grey one.... Still Techno grey is quite close...
Nice one Neil!
Remember, it would make a nice quick minicab!
(Me chuckles).
