You could always add the Alpine DAB controller like i will be doing to my new 9813R in the coming months. Added cost, but i do think the Alpine headunits are superb, and worth paying a bit more for the addition of DAB.
cheers z how much is the dab controller, how big is it? e.g will it fit under the dash?, does it need an extra areial?
z u fitted your 7913 yet?. know about alpine hu z, had a few inc the infamous 7909,they are worth every penny, just wished they did the 7913 with red display;)

Its the 9813R, i went for this model as it has more control over the Bass, having the full Bass Engine Pro.
Plus in Black and with Orange Illumination it doesn't look that bad.
My older Alpine was silver, and just didn't suit the Leon's dark facia. The 9812RR is spot on in terms of how it matches the OEM red look, but i wanted the enhanced features of the 9813.
It looks like this. But lights orange or green.

This is the DAB controller, ive not bought it yet, but will do probably next month.

The cheapest i have found it so far is wit Empire Direct.

DAB Aerials are available here from Car Audio Discount.
Including stick on one, and Bosch replacement VW OEM DAB Aerials.

:) cheers for that z i was at that very moment on the empire site ,like u say its the cheapest, i,ve also found so far @£380.35 inc vat, onthe site u put link to package price £699.00for 9813+tua100 dab,if u go onto letsbuycaraudio.com the 7913 is £274.99+ empires £380.35=£655.34
looking at the site z think i,m gonna get 7912rr + dab mod like idea of the red display, not modding the ice to any great degree or would have gone for 9813 or 9815(wish max would post some pics of his hu;)
so z post the results if u get the dab set up,thinking its the way to go for me.
how u doing the areial, dont fancy the glass jobbie myself, like the oe one do u need the fm one to recieve digital and fm?as no idea http://www.caraudiodiscount.com/acatalog/dab2.gif
or this one?http://www.caraudiodiscount.com/acatalog/dab1.gif
let us know z

Im considering the dual one, thats setup for FM and DAB, ive been told its not a hugely difficulty job to change the aerial, but we'll see. Would require the roof lining being taken down, so maybe safer to stick with the stick on aerial.
May have a word with SQ Plus and see if they could fit the aerial for me.
Let me know how u do z,and cost if u get it fitted.made up my mind now 7912rr, with dab unit+fm+dab areial(gonna be in bother with our lass);)
U thought about tuning yet z ? ,mines now done 2500 miles, thinking of jabba with boost controller, take it easy mate
vern
Nah keeping it totally standard me ;) cough must get that bad throat seen too

I am thinking of the woodstock dab52, i know fen got one fitted, does anyone know if the stick on aerial is any good, and if it is easily hidden?
Whats the best price around? I have seen £299 anything lower than that
SBF - the stick on aerial looks like a phone one - check the pics of the Beezer in my sig and you can see it.
I think I paid £349 or so from Blue Spot but that was November - it's bound to be cheaper now.
Personally I quite like it - sounds fine and doesn't look too bling.
Negative points are only 5 preset buttons (but it has multiple programmes on each) and mine won't do FM traffic on DAB (my Pioneer did) but I think it's dodgy. Now I've got the GTi to use daily I'll whip the DAB52 out and get it off for a repair.
The illumination is set up for VW - blue with red - but it still looks good with the red SEAT lighting, at least it isn't green
Just realised the sig link is broken - I'll find a new one.
Edited to say link is fixed but you can't really see the aerial. It's in the top left of the rear screen.

Thankis for the quick responce, i think i might take the plunge. i listen to more radio than cds so it makes sence.

It will prob look abit moe OE than the Clarion i have in right now..

p.s. i assume the reception is fine with the glass mount aerial? Do you plug the standard FM one in too?
Yep, keep the standard one. The DAB52 even uses the ISO aerial connector so it plugs straight in. I have the roof mount on the boot of my cab (not enough glass for the glass mount) and there is no difference between them for reception (nor for the Pioneer roof mount in my Turbo).
You'll have to swap your lives over 'cos of the VAG weird wiring and the plugs going straightinto the back of the unit (better for the limited space in the Beezer dash tho). I opened the tape around the stereo bit of the loom and snipped the two live wires then fitted bullets so I could swap them back for the OE stereo. The DAB aerial has its own lead that you'll need to route it to the stereo but it's thin enough.
They do a combined DAB/FM roof mount aerial nowadays too.

Well thats the Woodstock ordered.
I might be looking for advise when it comes Fen if things go pear shaped...
I'm sure you'll be fine, but ask away if you need to.
Where are you getting it from?

Car Audio Direct, i am getting the wheel mount remot too, i just couldnt resist. Wife will kill me.
£299 for the Woodstock and £35 for the remote
On the bright side i have sold the Clarion for £250 so i am quite happy.
What do you think then?
Do you get FM traffic when you're listening to DAB? I don't but I think mine's dodgy.
How about switching to FM when the DAB signal drops? - mine won't do that either and I don't get BBC DAB for half my commute - right pain.

I ended up cancelling, they took a week to get the HU in when i phoned them they said yes the HU is in but the remote is now out of stock...Feckers didnt put 1 by for me while the HU was coming. So i said forget it. I have ordered from bluespot and i should be coming mid week. Will be on my hols but will be back week Sunday to fit it. Will give you update after that, cheers. I sure hope it switches when the is a change in signal..
I'm sure the manual says it switches - it's a feature you can turn on and off - but mine doesn't. I think that the traffic doesn't work like it should either as mine seems to have that problem with the FM/DAB interaction.
You won't have any trouble with Blue Spot in my experience.

There's hardly any room behind the dash in a Leon I've run out of space now :(
You might have to fit the dab box in the boot

Got the Blaupunkt BAD52 fitted tonight, still got the aerial to fit but it looks much better than the Clarion, really neat.
Fen can you adjust the contrast/brightness of the HU, cant seem to find any controls?
Very very happy with it.
I have a Sony HU which is "DAB ready" as they say. So all I need is the box with wires sticking out of it and an aerial? Is DAB worth getting? Does anyone know how much the Sony kit is?
Questions, questions... :D

Suppose it depends on how much you listen to the radio. I am well happy with my Blaupunkt, really suits the car and has a good sound quality. The DAB coverage is not quite so good up here, around the central belt its fine but stray too far off and you get nothing. But then i only have the glass mount aerial, so its maybe not great.
I wanted an all in one unit, the only thing is i think it gets pretty hot after 30mins of playing. And the disks occasionally skip, but that might just be a suspention problem!!
So I suppose the reception around London should be pretty good, but when I go home to Wales it might be a bit dodgy. Hmmm...
Anyone have an idea of much?
