View Full Version : Performance Air filter
Is it possible to do a simple upgrade from the standard Cupra air filter to a performance one, that doesn't involve any drilling, modding etc...
If so how much d they cost, and what are the gains like (1-2 BHP ??)
I test drove one of these puppies yesterday and I am now totally set on gettin one instead of my previous choice of 206GTI.
When I got back to the dealer he was laughing at the permanent grin I was wearing from ear to ear !!
I couldn't get an Ibiza Cupra test drive yesterday - should I bother ??

I would, obviously I'm biased as I own one but they are a good car if you don't need the space that the Leon provides. The Ibiza is just as quick 0-60 etc.

Does the handling/road-holding as good on the Ibiza - when looing at the car width, different chassis etc ...
I wasn't looking at the LEON as an alternative before - I don't need the 5drs etc.. - but seeing as its a company car the LEON would hardly cost me anything extra..
There is currently no Induction Kit that fits a Leon. You can stick a K&N Panel filter in though.

yeah, its the panel flter I ws interested in.
Are they worth it ??
Yeah, they will give an improvement. I have an induction kit wating to go on mine. Just needs a new bracket.
But the Panel Filter would give you a couple of BHP

Lee, I think i read in these forums that yours is a company car..
How do you get a way with modding it ???
Mine will be bought on a company discounted PCP scheme - I'm thinking that only gives me the right to mod if if i'm gonna buy it at the end of the 3 years ???
Like I said. Its not fitted yet http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif

I guess it's down to personal choice. I like a smaller car, not that the Leon is huge. As for the handling, I think my Ibiza is great. I have found you need to grab it by the scruff of the neck and throw it into corners to get the best rather than trying to line it up. It seems to tighten up more if you launch it in. Maybe it's got reactive shocks? I think Monroe made some that did this.
I've had a strut brace fitted which I think has made a big difference to the handling. Could just be in my mind though!
I had a Saxo VTR before which although plasticky and slow, was like a go-cart in terms of cornering so I was a bit spoilt.
I knew the Ibiza wasn't as good in the corners but as proven recently between a V plate VTR and myself it's quicker in the real world. (private road honest! ) http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/wink.gif
Either the Beeza or Leon would be a sound choice, expecially as a company car with free tyres etc!

I hate company car owners!!! I had to pay for my Cupra with poxy bank loan!
My take on this subject is thus: If you have a family, ie wife and kid (cupraman) go for the Leon, If not, go for the Ibiza. It gets more looks from people (if you like that kind of thing) and it also has the ability to walk all over most cars that cost alot more. You should see their faces, he he he!!!!
Oh, one more thing. I know this chap who has 5 cars, a Porsche Boxter being one of them, a total petrolhead. He also owns an Ibiza Cupra, and his brother too! Now thats a seal of approvel if ever I saw one! His brothers Cupra is chipped, and ive been told it keeps up with his Porsche until 80mph. As ive been out in the boxter, thats very very very quick!!!!

Ah but at least my loan will be paid for and I'll own the car in two years, think of all their tax money they're shelling out for nothing.
Makes me feel better anyway!

Sorry to piss you off mate ;-)
but this is a PCP plan, which means that the car is on HP in my name - but the company pays for the majority of the payments...
I will only have to pay approx £25 NET! a month (this includes insurance, servicing, tyres - not sure about road tax? ) and after 3 years I get the choice to keep the car for about £4000....
Best of both worlds - if I love the car enough I can buy it outright - or take a new car instead...Mind you if the car turns out to be a gem - I could buy it and also get a new car as well (who knows what will be around in 3 years ??)
(if i went for the Ibiza, it would cost me absolutly nothing a month !!)
BTW - in real world(road) terms which of the 2 is faster... I should imagine there isnt much in it, LEON with more power, but IBIZA has less weight ??

Although there isn't much in it, the Leon seems slightly quicker than the Ibiza Cupra, but not the Ibiza Cupra R. That is quicker than the Leon from 0-60. Not sure about top speed - I think the Leon comes out on top again at 142.
I am still waiting for my Leon Cupra to arrive - my previous car was a 3 door Coupé. All I can say is that although I enjoyed my old car (Hyundai Coupe 2.0 SE) I will never ever buy a 3 door car again. Although OK at first, it gradually gets more and more frustating and annoying. Just giving someone else a lift, or putting the dog in the back of the car gets really tedious every time you have to start fiddling about with the seats.
For £25 a month I would definitely go for a Leon without doubt - but that's just my opinion.
BTW when you order.... I ordered my Leon Cupra (or 20VT) at the end of May, and was told there was one due to be built to go to a dealer that they would get for me, which would take 6 -7 weeks to arrive. Still not even docked in the UK yet, and it supposedly takes about 2 weeks to get to me after it has docked!

According to CAR magazine, if you flick to the back and check the stats the two cars have identical 0-60 and top speed. I would've expected the Leon to be quicker at the top end though?
