Discrete tweaks for a new 1.4 Ibiza SE

Hi,

My girlfriend has a 52 plate Ibiza SE with the 1.4 75bhp engine which to be frank is a little asthmatic and some what lacking in mid-range torque :bored:

So I'm basically wondering if you guys know what options might be available that we can do to get a bit more grunt out of this engine but in a way that's - how should I put this :think: - insurance discrete!

I've had a look at the so called engine and it appears to have a miniscule hole on the right to get air in, not sure that much can be done there. Probably a decent panel filter would help but I've no idea how to get to the existing filter to check it out.

A cam job is very tempting and pretty impossible to detect visually. Are there any options for this engine?

We're just on the south side of Manchester, are there any decent (read reputable) tuners/suppliers around here where we can get parts from?

In order to get any real power increase from that engine, you're going to need to spend A LOT of cash! Air filter, exhaust etc, won't really make a much difference. A cam probably would, but it's pretty pricey for such a relatively small increase.

I'd love to get more power out of my 2 litre 16v, but it's just not worth spending the kind of money that is required. I'm considering a leon cupra, then you only have to spend a few hundred quid for a pretty huge power increase.

What your bascially lacking is any tourqe due to the samll capacity of the engine, one thing that can be done is to bore out the engine to give you a bigger capacity, however i don't know if that can be done on that engine. Another way although you couldn't avoid telling your insurance company about it is adding a small turbo. I read about a guy who added a turbo to a 1 litre yaris and 100bhp out of it.

The restictor hole on the airbox is miniscule on the 1.4. Remove it. It should be fairly easy! The SPT crew certainly know how!
