Well I have killed it today on the IOM and it is stuck in Liverpool!, RAC man thinks it is a inlet valve!, Will call you tomorrow as I need it fixed and I know that you are the best people for the job;)

Luke's 400bhp A3 (similar setup to sams) ran an 8k rev limit on standard valves and did quite a few 1000 miles.
New 1.9 engine currently going in after the transfer box exploded :)
Will update once we've had a look at Sam's car..
