i always hear Schrick are the best ones, i am running piper cams in mine.
think cams from the 1.816v will fit brend, you not looking for gains right now are you?just some that work yeh?
i presume the stnd 9a ones would fit also.
any audi's running the 9a/abf?
there must be some kicking about on cgti,
AMD advertise that they have 2nd hand heads etc kicking about:cheers:
KR cams from Golf think if I heard right and some bloke says make "it more revvy", whatever he means by that. The KR and ABF cam profiles must be quite similar as there don't seem to be any discernible differences in max power or torque - then again i could be talking ar*e cos I haven't seen the RR plots for shape but I believe the CGTI 16 valvers had a recent ish RR day at Stealth for a bit of comparative data.
think(read)that the kr cams only help improve performance replacing the toruqie 9a cams, and this is only the inlet.
this is all from cgti so i'd get on there and do some searching brend
bet you've done this already ?;)
i have graphs of 9a with kr cams vs ABF, both running on k-jet, there is barely any difference between em

yea jase, i just want my engine running normally, i think the kr cams from what ive heard recently dont make any concertable difference, just slightly different power banding not noticeable unless on a RR and even then its not much and power will hopefully not drop from abf items.
so if bills reading this, i'll take your old kr ones and ill give you my cc number or cheque, whichever is easiest matey!
one question, i got my timing pulley changed under warranty seeing as it only lasted 3 months, will it fit the end of the kr or is it a different type of profile at the end?
could send the krs off to newmans for a regrind to mild shrick copies

Would the get the lift?
no they can't improve on the lift but you can get 268s or whatever with about 10mm lift rather than the normal 11 (not exact) so they work out a bit milder, good value for 250 i guess
Schrick 260's work brilliantly in my 1998 16v. For road use 260 are the best. Ask Vince at www.stealthracing.co.uk if you want some really good advice. You may sacrifice 5 bhp at the top end over 268's but your motor will be fun to drive (a lot of fun).
i have also read that for fast road/occasional track the 264 are quite good, again top end loss but,a good spread of torque.
this is what i've read:cheers:
Hi
Schrick 260's will be nice - very drivable, nice tickover etc
268's will have more snort but with less tractability - as I understand it as far as you want to go with a Kat-equipped car
276's start to get wilder and I would not recommend them with a std plenum - tickover is a problem - ace with throttle bodies though and can be mapped to be very drivable with a stonking top end that absolutely slams into the rev limiter (I have these on my car).
The genuine schricks are likely to be the way to go but IMO, are over-lifting for the std valve sizes in a VW 16V motor - I would think that you wouldnot take that much of a hit from Newman regrinds being lower lift - my old-spec genuine schrick 276's are 10.5mm lift and this is less than the current spec by almost 1mm and they do just fine !
You pays your money and you takes y' choice - the genuine items will be the best but is it worth it to you and how much better will they be ? Remember to add on fitting charges and remapping if you get the choice wrong though.
I have used Kent cams before on an MGB and a Metro and they were fine. Never used Piper.
Best of luck
Cheers
Rob
Have been looking at this very thing over the past few weeks, Seans 268's were a great price, but i spoke to vince @ stealth who tried to map a set of 268's to a 16v ibiza and he said it felt "overcammed" whether this was the way this one particular car responded, with its own unique engine mods is probably the case.
However, although TB's are undoubtedly an amazing piece of kit (i've driven robs ibiza :D ) i have to face facts that im not going to be able to afford them for a couple of years at least.
Ive come to the conclusion that a milder cam profile will give me a better spread of power (remembering that ive got std rods and bolts so 7500rpm isnt ideal ;) ) Kent list a 264 which according to this informative site (http://membres.lycos.fr/philippe840/clubabf/GolfGTI/camshaft.php) has a lift of 10.94mm.
Will look into what Piper can offer also (unless anyone has the info to hand)
For the record, Schrick make a 260 too (11.17mm lift), which is prolly a belter aswell.
This is what Stu/H8SV8S said when I asked him about his Schrick 268/276 set-up:
"Yeah, it's a bit peaky now and there used to be decent torque at 2,500rpm,
which has pretty much moved higher up the revs altogether. I've reset the
rev limit to 7,400 and the car now pulls hard right to the cut out, so
really needs a bit of work for a higher (safely) rev limit. The head is done
to about stage 2, and is pretty good.
I put the cams in before the head was done and the car was TERRIBLE!! My
mechanic said to try first before I payed their flow guy to do the head and
as I had been told and thought, bottom end disappeared!! So definately work
the head as well, if you get the cams. As a guess, everything has moved about
1k RPM higher in the rev scale, so it's not a lot but definately makes it a
bit annoying! The power is still really linear and the car flies at about
5,200rpm - I'd definately recommend you do it. I'll post the dyno as soon as
I get my new suspension (can't afford both!!!). Cheers"
saull,a little badger told me to steer clear of piper, not the best on the market;)

Here is a dynoplot of a 2ltr 16v MK2 Golf Rally Car running Badger5 T'bodies and Kent Rally cams.... ~278's I think.

£320 for a pair of Kents, yea I have supplied them :D vs £500 for some Schricks is a comparison.

I agree the Schricks are probably over-priced, but they were all I could get here, without massive import duty costs. I think it would be worth looking at some of the UK manufacturers if you live there, as I really don't see there could be much difference if they are their specified specs.
If I had the choice again, I would probably go a bit "colder" on the duration, as you can only really feel the full benefit of the 268/276 on the track. I'll be interested to see where the car will go if safely raise the rev limit, but am strapped for cash, so can't afford internal mods ATM...
I'm impressed with the Schricks in terms of idle, though. After much toying around with maps, it's actually pretty smooth, with only slight "pulsing".

If you wanted to unlock the full potential, a nice set of Direct to Head Throttle bodies would fit nicely :D :p ;)
RobT's similar spec engined Ibiza went from 180bhp on plenum to 217bhp on DTH T'bodies.
Schrick prices are in Euro's now, and the exchange rate has made them a higher price sadly.... Were £480 not so long back.

I emailed you a while back, Bill, but you didn't reply
You're definately right, the next step is TB's, and I reckon my cams are better suited to TB's to restore that bottom end power.
Do you ship to we strangers in Australia?
Cheers

Opps.
Appologies for that. (maybe my mailwasher program I was using killed it before I read it.... I had a few weeks of that happening :( so have now replaced it with a better antispam tool - sorry if I missed your email.)
I have shipped to Auz yes (t'bodies, cams, verniers).... and to an ibiza owner previously also..
your import duties make them mucho expensive tho (or they did according to the previous guy)

Yeah our government are b@astards on the import duty side of things. I have managed to get around it before, so when I get a bit of money in a month or two, I'll see what I can do ;)
Thanks
