I've just reed an a letter in Diesel Car magazine that may interst any one thinking of fitting Cruise Control. I wont copy the whole letter, but heres a rough idea.

Guy has an Octavia TDi, goes to Skoda to ask about Cruise Control kit, they don't know what hes talking about.
He goes to VW dealer and they supplied and fitted it for £126.59 inc free courtest car.....

I'm gonna call to see if it uses std indicator stalk.

Right, heres the story:

Had a call back from the Service Manager at the garage who was a little pissed off with the Skoda Owner for publishing it in a national magazine cos he said it wouldn't be liked by VW.

Anyway, this kit is a VW supplied kit which includes fitting instructions and extra wiring loom...... Price wait for it

£51.50 +VAT
....And I've secured a 10% discount on this price from my local VW Dealer....

Part number 1J0 998 527, can be ordered from any VW garage, but don't mention the obove garage. Then just get the Cruise Control Function enabled on the ECU which they said it a 5 minute job.

Its also only for TDi 90 & 110 models, not the PD or Petrol models.... sorry Cupra guys.

Hope this helps:D

When you get to your required cruising speed, say 120km/h, you press a button on the end of the indicator stalk, and the car will hold that speed when you take your foot off the accelerator until you press either the clutch or brake peddle. It also allows you to resume the last set speed if you have to slow down (i.e, if you press the resume button it will accelerate back to 120km/h), and you can also increase and decrease you speed using the buttons too. On long journies it can save alot of fuel.

Neil,

Sounds great - let me know how you get on with it please.

Are you sure that the price is correct £51? Sounds very cheap, but do you have to fit it yourself?

Have a good 'un

Any Ideas why it will not work on a petrol model??

APR manage to make it work on Cupra's and all they do is use stock VW parts, in fact proabably the same part your using.

DaveP

Because there is no wiring for it (which I believe flapper has confirmed when they looked into it).

I do wonder how APR do it, because it is a lot cheaper than I paid for AMD to do it (who wired the stalk right back to the ECU). There is also the dutch dealer who did it, I find it hard to believe that he wouldn't have used factory parts.

I reckon that the TDI guy's are trying to keep the cruise kits for themselves :D

:D :D , Nah, they wouldnt do that!!, i'm gonna order one later today and fit it myself hopefully to a cupra petrol!

I am quite surprised that they only charge £51.50 for a stalk and wiring. I would have thought VAG would charge at least £100 for any kind of stalk!

ZBOYD
04-01-2002, 12:43
I know there was an issue with the Ibiza's not being wired for it, but APR seem to have solved this now too.

Maybe if Mark from APR is about he can explain it better.

But i believe the Leon Cupra's are prewired, as the Golf IV's are too.

Then AmD did too much work to put it on mine - which is not usual for a garage ;-) Also, I thought flapper had had their demonstrator in and implied that the wiring was not there?

Tdi 110
04-01-2002, 12:55
Yes, price is correct, I ordered it about 2 hours ago:D

It was stated that it will fit the following models:

Golf
Bora
Bettle
Passat
Leon
Toledo
Octavia

Not sure if Audis have the same stalks!!! But the VW Parts manager had it fitted to his Passat TDi.

if it helps any , the cars we have checked DONT have the wiring in them , so a loom will be required which needs intergrating CORRECTLY to the ecu connector :o not a hard job if you know what where etc , and to help all the ibiza's out YES although the switch assy IS dearer and harder to get it is possible

to prove it we have the very first IBIZA cruise control switch in the country , currently installed and working on our techie's car , it IS a diesel but ALL the wires needed to be installed

NOT FORGETTING once installed the 1551 diag unit is required to open the option in the ecu program mind

So Flapper, will Amethyst fit Cruise Control to an Ibiza then??? :)

How much does it cost?

Is it an easy job (My car is already booked in for an oil change, boost gauge fitting etc on 19th, any chance I'd be able to get Cruise control fitted on the same day?).

Thanks
Ben

theoretically possible , only niggle is time to get another switch as it took ages to import the last one , NOT CHEAP mind as the switch comes as an assembly , but i can try if you like

we have all the loom sizes down know so shouldnt take long to fit :D

Hi Mark here from APR

Just to let you know that the cruise stalk for the Leon is as per Golf 4, Audi TT & S3 and also new Beetle. We have indeed fitted cruise control to all these models. The Ibiza however as a totally different stalk that is a complete unit with wiper stalk. We are fitting it this week to our own Ibiza Cupra which we recently purchased as a demonstrator. The wiring is slightly different but having viewed the current flow diagrams for the Ibiza, should not give us any problems. We make the new wiring looms in house with the proper block connectors and heatshrink. The four wires to the ECU are the same pin out numbers as the Leon / Golf 4 etc. with the only difference being the clutch pedal switch! The car is partially wired and the ECU just needs configuring. The stalk however for the Ibiza is around 63 quid , but as stated, comes complete with wiper stalk and ignition lock housing as opposed to the 35 quid for the Leon which is purely a new indicator stalk with cruise feature. Hope this answers any queries anyone may have!

Cheers Mark, Flapper.

Flapper, can you provide me with a fully fitted price?
Any chance you could get all the stuff for 18th Jan?

Mark, if Flapper has any problems getting the parts do you have any stock I could buy (For Amethyst to fit)?

Thanks
Ben

I will be ordering three tomorrow and should have them by the end of the week. There does not seem to be any problems with the supply from germany, as we recieved some only a couple of weeks ago which took only 4 days from ordering.

No problem with supplying Amethyst.

Regards
Mark

PS: Message for Flapper- do you know if the front bumper assembly arrived in for the Ibiza Cupra we bought from you before Xmas. Rob was organising it, and it should come to us painted(ovni yellow) ?

I spoke to Flapper today and I've gone ahead and ordered it. Cruise Control for an Ibiza, £200 fitted.

He's had to order it in from Germany I think, so hopefully it should arrive in time for 18th when I get my oil change and boost gauge fitted. Should be sorted in time for the RR day.

:)

I got my VW CC kit last night. The box consists of an indicator stalk and a small loom with 6 wires. One end of the loom is pluged into the stalk base. 5 of the 6 wires are grouped together and have small spade "type" connectors that I assume go into a fuse box etc, the other wire breaks off from the main loom about half way down and has a strange connector which I assume goes into the Drive-by-wire unit next to the accelerator peddle.
I can't confirm where the wires go yet because they have supplied the instructions for a 1993-1997 Golf & Passat TDi....... I have however taken pictures of the kit, and will try and do a step by step write-up.

Just to let you know the ibiza cruise control only as 4 wires & not 5 or 6 wires.

I was meant to get mine fitted yesterday but the parts never arrived in time and the dealership (Amethyst0 is 150 miles away, so looks like I'll have to spend the money on an induction kit instead! ;)

VW won't fit it to a SEAT, so fit myself....

I've had a look at instuctions, it seems if you have the knowledge to use a spanner, and don't mind taking a few bits of trim off you will be fine:D

From AMDS website I noticed this on there news column

If for some reason it was not fitted and you decide that you would now like to update your vehicle with this feature, we here at AmD can add the original factory components and set your management system to operate cruise control. In Sweden there is no CC-option for
the "sport 20VT" (= UK Cupra),
but the SEAT dealer fitted a VW Golf IV GTI.
Maybe something for you Cupra-owners?
Cost? £175 incl. work.
