View Full Version : ampless
want a tasty amp(s) to go with my system.
Got a buyer for my pheonix gold amp and now need to source one for its place.
I was think of purchasing this (http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?products_id=967) to power my 5 1/4" components in the front and a 12" sub.
anyone got any comments to make or would a 2 channel amp and a monoblock amp give me better sounds.
i have components in the rear two but these are unamped and are just for a fill.I have a PG in-line-driver too.
your help would be greatly appreciated!
Dan
I've been impressed with DLS amps in the past - probably because I have Genesis amps (story behind that one if you know it). Not as impressed with their speakers.
What HU have you got? Not too sure if you'll need the line driver though. I use my home made one because I tweaked my Genesis amp to take 8V in.

Doh forgot that:its a top notch alpine 4x60 watt jobby,4 volts(technical as ever)
If you've got 4V coming out of a decent Alpine unit then the line driver may not be needed as the DLS will probably only take 4V in. Gives you something to try/play with though.
How much is the 4channel Genesis?

genesis stuff is roughly about the same price(wonder why that is!)
Genesis stuff (http://www.huetcaraudio.co.uk/acatalog/index.html?http%3A//www.huetcaraudio.co.uk/acatalog/Product_Categories_Genesis_21.html&CatalogBody)
Although there isn't a comparible amp that gives as much power as that DLS one really.
It seems the rms output of the genesis range is somewhat lower to:dunno:
I don't know how close the DLS given ratings are to the real measured ones. I know that Genesis under-rate their stuff buy some margin. My DA110 is supposed to be 2x55W when its really 2x95W according to the 'birth' sheet. Similarly my SM100 is 2x50W but when bridged into 4ohms its 283W. (RMS ratings)

All fair comments:cheers:
just found out the input sensitivity of the DLS A5 ultimate is variable between:0,2-7V.
I'd try using your line driver then. Is it a PLD1?

The A5 sounds like it might fit the bill for you. But what are the components and sub? It'll make a difference as to what amp you need.

What load is the sub? 4ohm or 2ohm?
Pete
I hope its a dual 2ohm so you can present 4ohms to the bridged channels.

Diamond audio M6 12" sub spec (http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?products_id=1119&tab=2)
Dual 2 ohm;)
By all means make some more suggestions for amp(s),i'm all ears
The DLS one quoted above came highly recommended by SQ+ as I need more volume and less distortion at peak output.
:help:
I'd go for the DLS stuff then or Genesis. I've been using Genesis for +6 years with no problems. Plus back up and questions are easily answered by Gordan.

I'd have to say Genesis, but then I would, my car looks like the Genesis stock room :D :D
A Genesis 4 channel would give you the same sort of power output as the DLS, and maybe even a bit more flexibility at a later date.
{Genesis salesman mode off} lol
