I own a Seat 1998 Seat Ibiza Cupra (VW ABF 16 valve 2 litre engine) Have been experiencing a cold start problem. When the car starts up in the morning it idles ok, but then when I touch the throttle the revs die, engine stalls and it smells like the engine is being flooded. If I leave it to idle for 5 mins without touching the throttle, then it seems ok. Also runs fine once warm. Have been told it is probably air mass sensor. Just wondered if anyone had any other ideas before I fork out money on getting the air mass sensor replaced.

ive got an abf powered cordoba and would guess thats its something similar to what you've already been told, try (when the engine is cold as you dont want to burn yourself) reconnecting the cables attached to the engine as a loose one may cause problems, especially the cable at the top left of the engine beside the throttle cable.
good luck.

Cheers mate will give it a try tomorrow. Should I disconnect the cable with the engine running or disconnect it first before starting?
