Has anyone else had this issue?
It can happen at any time and all of a sudden the handbrake light will flash about 4 times at 1 sec intervals and the buzzer also sounds (same as low petrol).

It seems to happen more frequently these days. Do the brake pads have wear sensors on the Ibiza Cupra?

My Ibiza does not have the "STOP" light in the bottom cluster display for the Handbrake. It has the small red "(!)" symbol in the top middle of the upper cluster display.

Any ideas on what this might be?

On the Leon anyway, the car will bleep if you leave the handbrake on and drive over (I think its) 10MPH. The only things I can think of is that the handbrake is not being fully disengaged or there is sufficient play in the handbrake for it to move when you are driving about.

Try that...

disconnect the sensor & re connect it (at the top of the reservoir)

Mine used to do that. Just needed a top up of brake fluid

Mine had a paddy a few weeks ago...
Dash lit up with beeping handbrake light and ABS light, accompanied by a squeeling from the rear OS wheel.

Stripped both rear hubs down and found a single little stone sat on top of the OS rear wheel sensor. No damage, just sat there. Cleaned off everything whilst there and reset fault codes (both Ns and Os rear sensors had 'intermittent' fault on them. Never come back since. Weird.

Beeping and brake light could be fluid level low as Mark says.
